Frankly, I think a lot of us who venture into this life are a bit fucked up to start, surely no "normal" person travels around the world to bang whores and drink heavily. Add to the craziness of LOS, passed issues and a failed venture and the mix is right for an unstable person to lose it in.

Yup, pretty much summed it up you have; however, I never thought of us folks as not being "normal". I suppose it is a just a matter of perspective. ;)

No way of knowing what really happened here. But when you step back, and look at the larger picture, this is what you see:

1. An unusually high number of Farangs commit suicide here under very questionable circumstances. We have had discussions and arguments here about questionable suicides, and maybe some of the dubious cases really were suicides. But the sheer number of questionable cases says something.

2. We don't know much about this case, but we do know that a few years back the police found a farang with his hands handscuffed behind his back and a plastic bag over his head in a rather famous Soi 4 hotel and called it a suicide.

3. We know that the Thai MiB have been criticised by one of Thailand's foremost forensic scientists, Dr. Pornthip, for for covering up murders as suicides.

4. We know there was a war on drugs where, in a very short period of time, several thousand alleged drug dealers died at the hands of police. No trials and no way of really knowing if these people really were drug dealers. Incidentally, and presumably not coincidentally, we also know that some MiB themselves are involved in dealing in drugs â?? you read about officers of the MiB getting caught with substantial quantities of drugs all the time.

5. We know that Thai police officers have been involved in the shootings of foreign tourists under, to put it charitably, questionable circumstances. Again, there have been discussions and arguments about individual cases, but the fact that this keeps happening over and over again says something.

6. When an election is coming up and the authorities announce they will be monitoring suspected hitmen, they are not hesitant about identifying many of these hitman as former MiB.

7. The nature of the MiB here is not a secret to Thais. It is only Farangs who think they act in accordance with anything that is remotely similiar to the rules that govern their counterparts in the West. Your average Thais isn't fooled.

8. It is not unusual to discover that when a Farang is murdered or "commits suicide" here, there is a Thai woman in the background who has some sort of relationship with a member of the MiB. The case down in Hua Hin is a good example of that.

MiB are far from being perfect but most of them, though they do not refuse "gifts/helps" for little services/protection etc..., will not take the risk to get involved in a murder (nothwistanding the fact that they are still, after all, Buddhists).

Now about the people who committed suicide:

I met more than a few foreign business owners and retired foreigners who were truely ass****.

About the business owners: Some of them do not hesitate to grudge and try to foreigners and Thais alike -> Some people (especially Thais who felt betrayed) could retaliate.

About retired foreigners: I met my share of retired people (mainly Brits and Americans) who were real ass***, some of them intelligent dodgy guys and others who were not the brightest minds I ever met so to say.

There are more than 12 foreigners local business owners or retired people that I knew who could easily be part of the "suicidees" (read: Locally assisted suicides) due to their behavior and/or tricky business deals.

I am not talking here about the sex tourists but about expats (who should know better).

All these people pissed off Thais (foreigners do not count as they usually do not resort to murder and do not know how to hire a hitman) at various degrees, I would not be suprised if one of these made the headlines in the suicide chronicles.

I am not saying that all people who got help committing suicide were ass¨*** but that there are more than a few farangs who should take care about not offending or even grudging Thais.

(of course these weird foreigners have a long record dealing with local BG/TG)

Agree that most MiB are not hired killers, but enough are that it is a serious problem. The more important point here is the systematic cover-up of murders as suicides. This is not a Farang specific problem. It is a larger problem in Thailand where most of the victims are not Farangs, but Thais.

I hope you are not saying that "assisted suicide" (murder) is justified? Your comment reads as though you are suggesting that it is.

I have lived here for over 13 years, and I have also met other Farangs I don't like, but I certainly don't think any of them deserve to be murdered. And if they were murdered, I wouldn't think: "they had it coming".

The problem here is not the victims, and I find it, to put it charitably, curious when Farangs try to rationalize the murder of another Farang or the disproportionately high number of Frang murders. My guess? A bit of cognitive dissonance: "it won't happen to me because I am different; I am a nice guy."

This is not unlike the cognitive dissonance that rationalizes sponsoring BGs: "she works in a bar where she had sex almost daily with other guys for money, but our relationship is special; I am not like those other guys; I am different, and so I will send her lots of money."

We're all different, or at least that is what we would like to tell ourselves. But anyone who lives or visits Thailand faces this risk. Your kidding yourself if you think otherwise; just like BG sponsors are kidding themselves when they think they are different.

I do not know for you but I met quite a few

(I personnaly just disliked them that is all)

who really pissed off Thai people and so I would not be suprised to learn that one of them has "committed suicide".....I do not accept murder as a solution and agree that Thailand has a problem with that.

Now about murders/suicides of foreigners I would be curious to find the true figures for other countries.

In the past 2 weeks there were headlines in Spanish newspapers about 2 missing foreigners....

(now the fact that Thais are known to explode when pushed too far maybe plays a part).

About BG and sponsorship, I agree it does not work for many but it seems that it worked for at least 3 board members (and I am not talking about just one year here)

Now just a not about "security": My company employes more than 600 people in its Madrid office and they come from more than 40 different nationalities.

Within the last month:

More than 10 have been robbed (usually in the subway/metro), one has been attacked and robbed by thugs with knives, another one has been killed by a car (just another crazy Spanish driver who believed he was an hombre by driving recklessly)
