Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai

This is an upscale boutique hotel in Chiang Mai's old city section. Great location, two blocks away from Tha Phae gate. The Sunday night market is right in front.

The layout is very intimate, with beautiful landscaping, pool and a nice spa. Vampirella gave the spa    (tho' pricey) and I trust her judgment since that is an area of her expertise.

Levels of service were off the chart excellent. One could not expect anything more. Tho' to be fair, the restaurant/pool side bar service was a bit slow. And one day the maid forgot to leave a new bar of soap...but we had plenty of shower gel, so it was no problem.

The room, the "Lanna Deluxe", tho' a bit on the small side, was spacious enough. Good selection of TV channels, for those interested in that. A nice sitting area on the balcony. The bathroom was nice, tho' I felt there should have been a second door for the toilet area for better privacy. The mini-bar had pint bottles of booze, instead of the mini-bottles (didn't partake, so I can't say what the prices were like). The bed was big and comfy (and sturdy :grinyes: ).

The restaurant was very good, tho' the Chiang Mai style food was not spicy enough for Vampirella (she's mostly Chinese, but was raised by an Issan maid and prefers Issan food). I found it fine, tasty and we solved the spice problem with some chilis and dips ordered on the side -- the staff just brought them without asking after the second day. Food/drink prices were fair for a 5* hotel, example: most dishes were ~B200++, while Mai Tais were B190++ and a big Singha was B100++.

Room cost was a nicely discounted B5608/night all in, including brekky, booked thru ThaiHotelsDiscounts Tim, who did a top notch job). This was a great rate as it was peak rate time (Easter weekend) and should have been B8000++.

The airport pick up was well worth the B300 (discounted from B470): two uniformed staff, male and female to formally attend to each of us as appropriate, with a lovely sign with both our names on it in calligraphy, in a brand new Ford Everest with tinted windows and a very subtle hotel logo on the doors. We felt like celebrities.

All-in-all a great experience. Well recommended if you are looking for a hedonistic, romantic, subtle, relaxing experience with your wife/gal-pal.

Here's some pix I took (as opposed to what's on the website, tho' they are pretty representative, unlike some hotels LOL):

Great staff (cute too!) who happily helped Vampy pack about two dozen orchids for travel on the airplane

I've tried to stay there 3 times since it opened several years ago but no rooms available each time. I stopped by the hotel one time to view the rooms and they looked great. Wonderful location and excellent reports from friends of mine also who have stayed there.

By the way SD: Your lady is exactly my type

And, do I see porn magazines on the first photo?

:neener:

Yup, exactly my type too. Couldn't think of anything I'd want to change about her.

55555 Not porn, no need :grinyes: . Just an Aussie FHM for me and a couple of Thai gossip mags for her.

Cheers,

SD

I really like the place where you stayed.

-> next time we go to this part of Thailand will try out the place.

Tim always did a good job for me too.

The price is a deal too.

Something strange though, the photo taken next to the pool -> you are both drinking water?????

For the lady I can understand but you -> a myth is dying

:neener:

Thanks
