Julian2
Believe what you like, I lived there off and on for three years and had a steady girlfriend who had worked bar for a long time. Sometimes just sitting back and listening and taking in the scene can be quite entertaining and informative . One of the guys I knew personally was a fat bastard, he also had a clothing factory on the base and drove a BMW and never went out with out a suit and tie on, he used to pick them off like flies. Another guy was on the rigs and use to flash his money, he was the two a week man when he was in town. He got two of my g/f's nieces and one was definitely rape. exit2dos
Good report. I liked the Santos Street bars best. No BS there. Never found Perimeter Road though. I couldn't even find it on a map. The Orchid was booked for part of my stay, had to move out to a room over a bar. Good view from the window on comings and goings. About the same price as one of the hotels with pools. You've got to have reservations on the weekend because the good places sell out fast. In the afternoon there's no place to go or walk to except the mall. The mall and bank security are amazing there's more shotguns than tellers. They frisk you before you walk into the mall than when you walk into the bank. No ATM worked for me with any of my cards. I'm glad I brought plenty of cash. The best place to change money is in the Mall. I liked it and had some great girls but Pattaya is better over all. But I'll go back. Julian2
Which mall is that E2? We used to get a jeepney over to San Fernando which was the best mall when I was there. Or go into the city and spend the day either in the big mall there or around the markets and DVD stalls. I suppose there were things to do in the day there but it was just so hot and hard to get around. A run to Subic Bay for a couple of days was always good fun but the bars there were small and ordinary.
exit2dos
I think it's called Hypermart. It's right at the old gate. They have 6 movie theatres, a giant supermarket (with fresh squeezed juices) and a lot of restaurants and shops. I never spent so much time in a mall. Angeles looks run down and dangerous but it's pretty buttoned down. The guys selling DVDs or T shirts and Viagra are all licensed. I would bet a lot of the bummy looking guys hanging around are undercover cops. There's supposed to be tours of the old base and a flight over Mt. Minitubo but you have to seek these out. Someone told me, at Subic, there are bars on rafts, where anything goes and if the authorities nose around, they pull up the gangways. But this is hearsay. Julian2
I've really got to get over there again. It's not that I'd have to pay for a flight even, I've got f/f points running out of my ears it's just I've got lazy. Plus explaining to the Mrs could be a challenge as well. farangman
The Mall is called SM Mall on Clark. It's made a huge improvement to Angeles but it does have a lot to improve on. The floating bars in Subic are not as raunchy as you've been led to believe I'm afraid. Yes there are girls there but nothing over the top goes on there. More like beer bars on water I would say. Pangit
Perimeter road is just an extension of fields avenue up past the America and Europa hotels. If you are feeling energetic you can walk up there in about 15-20 mins. These are well worth a visit and are akin to Soi 6 bars in Pattaya. The floating bars in Subic (there are two of them at Blue Rock and Kokomos)are very much floating beer bars, many of the girls will be in bikinis and often go over the side for a swim. In my opinion they are an excellent way to spend an afternoon at the beach. The floating bars are also generally out of action from June through to Sept due to the risk of Typhoons. tom br
Lots of nice and fun bars on perimeter that open at 2 in the afternoon. Rios and Nifty's (turn on corner at Garfields, 20 yds on that side road and your there) you can see usally see lots of skin and girls so very friendly along with the Matrix(walking disatnce from Garfields)! Great bars and friendly girls! Others bars along the road not as wild but open in afternoons and cheaper than fields. Get out of Jeepney at garfields and plenty of bars within stumbling distance! Pom Michael
Any updated recommendations of hotels on the Perimeter Road area? I stayed at a place there last year that was nice, had a old go-go in the lobby - but have no idea of the name. Anything going on there this weekend?
