I've just booked at the Tonle Sap for next month. I will give a report after the trip.

I have not stayed at Rory's but have been to the pub. The location is excellent. I didn't book there because I would like to take my g/f there some time and book the room with balcony. My g/f is from Issan and speaks Lao but not Khmer (unlike the Issan ladies from Surin, Si Sa Ket....

But, just in case, I don't want to take my g/f to a place where I am known to be a butterfly.

By the way, I am amongst those who have had things stolen at Flamingos. Some money was stolen - nothing heart breaking. But, when I calmly reported it, they tried to blame me - suggest I lost the money, etc.

I loved the location of Flamingos because my sleeping habits are horrible and I could get a cup of coffee at Walkabout around the corner at any time of night (and sometimes a lady if I was horny enough). But, like many good things, Flamingos was great at one time but now is just OK and not worth the cost.

Hello all,

I've just found out my favourite place to stay in Phonm Penh - Californa Cafe 2 has closed.

Any recommendations on the following or a place on or near the river $20 - $30?

The three of these look pretty good. The cost seems decent too. Like to hear from someone who has actually stayed at one of these.

I stayed at the River Star two times already. Its clean, friendly staff, free Internet in the Lobby (but no WLAN I think), guest friendly and I liked that they called me when girl left and asked if everything was fine. The rooms have balconies and panorama rooms(corner rooms) at the upper floors have a great view on the Mekong river (photos from 2004, this winter they had major road works along the river front)
