zzzz
Link ...reminds me of Chiang Mai a few yrs back: I was trying to walk across a street like that, waited maybe 10 minutes (the locals would just walk out into it and let the traffic go around them) .... I can't remember but I may have hailed a taxi to get to the other side.
Julian2
You have to walk slowly and determinedly into it. Never flinch or look like you're lacking self assurance. The motorcys will part like minnows swimming around a shark.

pe7e
Sukhumvit used to be very similar to that before the sky train was built and gave us the central reservations.
bibblies
I remember Sukhumvit before the Skytrain and it was never like Saigon! The Crossing the Road thing was one of those little things I loved (all those little differences, a la 'Royale with Cheese' ) because it's so completely the opposite of what we in the West are used to. You're supposed to watch for and avoid the traffic, right? Nope, not here... you just start walking into it and let it avoid you. It's fun. It becomes second nature after a while. The other difference from Bangkok is the sheer noise the Viets make while driving. They can't go a minute without using the horn.
