rickfarang
If you get into a taxi in Bangkok next week, and you see a fare of 40 baht when the driver turns on the meter, don't worry, its not a rigged meter. Its a fare increase. This increase has been reported in the past, and it looks like it is finally about to take effect. Source: http://www.bangkokpost.net/topstories/topstories.php?id=128208 -------being copied text-------- In another development, Chairat Sa-nguansue, the acting director-general of the Land Transport Department, said yesterday the new metered taxi fare rate should take effect by next week as officials have almost completed certifying the adjustments. The new rate demands a minimum fare of 40 baht, instead of 35, for the first two kilometres and a higher progressive fare for longer journeys. However, Mr Santi said yesterday that he still disagrees with the 40-baht minimum fare.
Julian2
I have no problem with this at all and think it's long overdue. Now for a crack down for the wretches who won't turn the meter on.

Old Hippie
These drivers can't keep eating it. I seem to recall the hike was first proposed over a year ago, sad it took this long.
Flashermac
The city raised the bus fares ... then lowered them when people complained. Wait and see.
Flashermac
These drivers can't keep eating it. I seem to recall the hike was first proposed over a year ago, sad it took this long. Plenty of taxi drivers have told me they oppose the hike. They are afraid it will cost them Thai customers.

cavanami
Wanna bet that the taxi company will now raise the rental price to the taxi drivers now? I would say that the drivers will not see any increase in their pockets!
