Yes, once you talk to them on the phone. Their spoken English gives them away.

Written communication (instant messaging) is often done using google translator. Of course, you won't understand much of it's gibberish - but who cares?

The profiles on dating websites are heavily edited, often copied and pasted, sometimes edited by farang friends or professional helpers so you cannot tell. The information in these profiles is pretty much zero.

You will know the approximate age (some dating sites will not update the age, so a five year old profile of an 18-year old gives a wrong impression), you get a rough idea about their height (most Thai girls believe they are 160 cm tall and cannot be bothered if this is not the height written on their ID card) and weight, you will know whether they have kids. You definitely do not know whether they live in BKK or in Nakhon Nowhere, young Thais are far too mobile - so who used to live in Korat often ends up in Bangkok, and many people think "Bangkok" is a generic location to be used for all places in Thailand, because farangs wouldn't know places like Surin or Kantaralak. Many people lalso live in "Muang".

Hobbys, interests, what they want, these things are often copied and pasted so they sound nice.

(Same for pics: they are usually photoshopped
