rickfarang
The Indian supply shop that I usually visit while in Bangkok is gone. Its time to restock my kitchen, and I am particularly interested in finding some good quality aesofetida, which would only be found in hard core Indian Spice shopts. Does anybody know of an easy-to-find place to buy Indian spices in Bangkok? I will be staying in the mid-sukhumvit area. Many thanks.
Julian2
If it is of any use to you this spice is often labeled "Hing" pronounced heeng.
elef
I guess little India is the place to go. Go to Phantip, over to the other side of the street and any soi down until you see more indians than thais.
Pom Michael
Suk Soi 12 and Soi 10 both have Indian spice shops on them.
Flashermac
Go to Pahurat - the "Little India" of Bangkok. You can find almost anything you want from the subcontinent over there. Also has a good selection of Indian restaurants. Just tell a taxi driver to take you to Pahurat and wander around.
CTO
Pahurat is what I also know as little India - no where near Plantip. Near China Town. Stop at the Gun Shops while your there.
rickfarang
Thank you for all the suggestions. I found the store on Suk Soi 10 (For anybody reading this thread later for information purposes, the shop is in a row of shops behind the large building on Soi 10.) When I brought the bottles of aesofetida on the check-out desk, the old man behind the counter looked up and exclaimed "Hing!" as though he wondered why this farang has wandered into the back of his shop
