Neo
someone has to decide wether a 100m runner has gone off too quickly or wether a swimmer has jumped too soon You miss the point. The difference between a pure sport and a judged sport is that when a pure sport is over it is clear to everyone who the victor was. The athletes know, the referee knows, and the fans know. Every single one of them. No one crosses the finish line second and claims they were robbed of victory. As someone said, pro wrestling is just as much a sport as synchronized swimming. It takes a lot of work in the gym, mastering many techniques, and presentation. I can appreciate some judged sports, but the rhythmic/synchronized type is too much for me. Impressive? No more than body slamming a 300 pound guy. It is just an exhibition, not a sport. During the time of the Greeks, all events were pure sports, even boxing. There were no judges. If a fight eventually became a stalemate with no progress, the referee would call a finale at which time the opponents would trade sucker punches to decide the fight. sayjann
i see your point about me missing the poit but i never saw the point in the first place...... a pure sport is something when everyone knows who won you say. but what if the winner cheated, who is around to point out that fact. will he/she admit to the fact?,can the crowd have any say in the outcome?. who decides if someone cheated?. and what is a pure sport?????????
