I was a the Mall in Bangkapi today and no one was selling any computer disks or movie vcds at the computer section near Tawana IT City. I was getting po'd that no one was waiting on me when someone told me the police were in the area so the seller took off or was keeping a very very low profile.

Hi all. As of 4th Jan everything as normal in Panthip. Just returned home to ice-hell Scandinavia with a s....load of software and music. Walking around Panthip I did not see any cops...and all the stores seemed as eager as last year to make me buy their software and Japanese porn. Maybe I just went there the right day. Oh, and in MBK I purchased a few VCD movies as well, No problem.

Just a quick update for any one interested in purchases from Panthip, everything is available as per usual, with some stalls employing runners to collect your ordered cds etc, returning about ten minutes after taking your order.Place was packed solid on Saturday last.

Panthip has been definitively closed for pirated software for three days. However, Hollywood IT (down the street towards the expressway past the Indonesian Embassy is open)

Police are in action in Panthip every day. Do not expect them to be in uniform.

They held a press conference of sorts there on friday last to announce that from now on they will not just arrest those selling the cd's but also those renting the shops to the sellers of cd's. Time will tell if this strategy is put into practice and what effect it will have

Can you obtian cd's on any given day in Panthip. Well the answer is yes. However Panthip is certainly seeing the brunt of the police action.

as mentioned above Hollywood IT down the street from Panthip does also sell software but not in the same quantities as before, MBK, The Mall at Bangkpai and Fortune City on Ratchada are also useful locations to try.

I asm sure that board members know of others

In Sriracha, maybe a 15-20 minute trip north from pattaya, there is a new computer mall similar to Panthip, but probably only 10% the number of shops. Reasonable selection of software for about the same price as Panthip. I bought some stuff there about 2 weeks ago. It's called DukCom (duk rhymes with 'book', not 'duck'), and it's on Sukmivvit. I took the public bus and the driver knew it.

Pantip needs to have a recorded info phone line saying "The software is (is not) available" as a public service wink.gif" border="0

I was at the Si Racha place 2/16 and a few intrepid vendors in upper floors were still offering, and at B10 less than Pantip and seemingly more masters and fewer CD-Rs. There was evidence that more places had been going, though, and I can infer the place had been visited a time or two by police.
