Old Hippie
Or a good script writer. What McCain says and what Obama says are not substantially different from what the Whitehouse is saying. They all talk about what should happen. Russia and Georgia should stop fighting and discuss their differences at the UN. Brilliant. U.N.? What's that? oh yeah, that bunch GWB ignored when it came to Iraq.
Old Hippie
So that means jack-shit will happen then.....mind you Georgia does have oil Which most liekly means they will use this oil money to fund terrorism, and buy WMD! We'd better get in there, fuck waiting for the U.N.!!!!
Old Hippie
Right twit he was. It wasn't meant to be an in depth analysis of Solzhenitsyn. Very confused person IMO. Never happy anywhere, blaming everybody for everything. Surprised you would quote him. It would be interesting to watch him doing mental acrobatics on the current Georgia/Russia situation. He would probably praise the South Ossetians for wanting independence and criticize Sakhashvili for taking a firm stand. Then two days later he'd say the Russians were brutalizing a sovereign state and call NATO weak and the UN spineless. Then if NATO did anything he'd call them imperialist puppets. Very confused. Like I say...a right twit. Cherry pick that lot. I said all this already, pissed off a board member something fierce! Nice to see Others can see this guy for what he was. Old Hippie
Doesn't Georgia have a terrible human rights record? Isn't al Qaeda in Georgia? Let me prove once and for all, we Americans do have a clue about world geography. Al Quaeda is in the Middle east, near Iraq. Georgia is in the south eastern USA. So this is why I say we should sure as hell get our asses down there and kick some Rusky butt! My guess is, they came in from Cuba, which is part of Mexico, probably under the guise of "looking for jobs no American wants to do."

Flashermac
Russian jets targeted major oil pipeline-Georgia TBILISI, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Russian fighter jets targeted the the major Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which carries oil to the West from Asia but missed, Georgia's Economic Development Minister Ekaterina Sharashidze said on Saturday. "This clearly shows that Russia has not just targeted Georgian economic outlets but international economic outlets in Georgia," she said at a news briefing. There have been no independent verifications of Russian jets targeting the BTC pipeline. Link

Old Hippie
U.N.? What's that? oh yeah' date=' that bunch GWB ignored when it came to Iraq.[/quote'] False. "...Nevertheless, this position taken by the Bush administration and its supporters, has been and still is being disputed by numerous legal experts. According to most members of the Security Council, it is up to the council itself, and not individual members, to determine how the body's resolutions are to be enforced.[7][8][9]..." "...The resolution text was drafted jointly by the United States and the UK, the result of eight weeks of tumultuous negotiations, particularly with Russia and France. France questioned the phrase "serious consequences" and stated repeatedly that any "material breach" found by the inspectors should not automatically lead to war; instead the UN should pass another resolution deciding on the course of action...." "...Inspectors began visiting sites where WMD production was suspected, but found no evidence of such activities, except for 18 undeclared 122mm chemical rockets that were destroyed under UNMOVIC supervision. P. 30 As was discovered after the invasion of Iraq, no production of WMDs was taking place, and no stockpiles existed. U.N. inspectors also found that the Al-Samoud-2 and Al-fatah missiles violated U.N. range restrictions, the former also being partially destroyed under UNMOVIC supervision. Debate about Resolution 1441 therefore turns on whether, despite the absence of WMDs and the acceptance of inspections, Iraq failed to comply with the terms of the Resolution, and whether an invasion was justified in the absence of any further UN Security resolutions on the subject...." and maybe the most important part of RY's reference... "...The factual accuracy of this article is disputed..."
