Beach Stolen

Thieves in Jamaica have embarrassed police and triggered a political row by stealing a beach - and making a clean getaway.

Hundreds of tonnes of white sand vanished from a planned resort on the island's north coast in July but three months later there is no sign of suspects nor sand.

An estimated 500 truck-loads of sand were removed from the Coral Spring beach in Trelawny and were believed to have been sold to rival resorts, a hefty logistical feat which has stumped police.

"It's a very complex investigation because it involves so many aspects," Mark Shields, the deputy commissioner for crime at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, told the BBC.

"You've got the receivers of the stolen sand, or what we believe to be the sand. The trucks themselves, the organisers and, of course, there is some suspicion that some police were in collusion with the movers of the sand."

When the Dusit Laguna Hotel opened about 1986 on the NW of Phuket, it had its own beach problem. Seems no one had thought about the tides there. The hotel repeatedly covered the rocks with sand to make a beach, and a storm would come along and wash it all away again!

Maybe that's why they built so many nice swimming pools. :p

When the bulldozers showed up, what was it, 3:00 AM at Suk 8-10, nobody saw a thing. Nobody heard anything also. Shit happens even as the tree falls in the forest.

Thieves steal 120 tons of road salt

right down the street from me.But I did not do it

Associated Press

AURORA, Ill. - Authorities say someone has been stealing road salt from a storage facility in the Chicago suburb of Aurora -- and not just a few bags of it.

The owners of Elgin-based Tovar Snow Professionals say 120 tons of the salt are missing, and it's worth about $32,000.

The stolen salt would fill six semi-trucks and require heavy equipment to load.

Tovar vice president Eric Hartmann says major vendors like Tovar plan months in advance and buy their salt in the summer, but a smaller, seasonal company, such as a landscaper or paving firm that switches to clearing snow in the winter, may not have a stock on hand.

Hartmann notes that the price of road salt is three to four times what it was last year.
