Phil,

As much as I dislike Man U, I am with you - the Argentinian football psyche will not work as well in the Premiership as it would, in say, the more "style oriented" Serie A. I too wonder where Yorke will go...?

As for the Sol transfer, we have all seen it before in many a sport. A recent one was last year's transfer of Figo from Barca to their hated rival Real Madrid. Figo took all kinds of abuse, but survived.

Let's hope the Spurs supporters can get a grip on things - Sol gave them many years of excelent football. He just left for a better club with more opportunities. The fact that he did it within the same city will certainly cause him some headaches, but just as Beckham's blunder has largely faded from memory, so too will this (I hope).

Rivalry between Spurs and Arsenal is very bitter.

Spurs vs Arsenal at White Hart Lane is you can bet your life the first fixture that Sol Campbell has looked for. It's going to be a hotbed.

Remember Cantona when he returned to play for United against Leeds at Elland Rd? That's going to pale in comparison.

A,

Manninger....curious to know how he impressed you. For me, he seemed to lack confidence throughout the campaign. Wright may make us all forget him, and may even displace Seaman. We will see.

I am with you - this could be the year. Man U may have some big question marks up front.

I see that we have picked up, or are about to pick up, a new Japanese midfielder. I know plenty about Tanaka, but I beleive someone else is in the works. Know anything about that?

Campbell will, I hope prove to be a better signing than the last couple we got from those muppets up the road, Young and Walford. Remember them???

Vieira - too much hype me thinks, hopes. If wot he says is true, then sod off. But I hope he stays.

Shame if Upson and Manninger leave, they done well in the Double season. This season, it's ours.

I was referring to the double season. It was unfortunate since then that he only ever got a look in on meaningless games or when spunky was injured. That can't have done his confidence much good, the knowledge that he was never gonna get a good run on his own merits.

Anyway, gossip from the UK suggests Stephen Carr as a target. Doncha just hate the pre season.

A,

Okay, I see where you were heading about Manninger. Point well taken.

Yes, the pre-season is hard on the nerves. One day you wake up and Patrick is gone. The next Nakata is coming, then not. Then Patrick is staying.

I guess the bottom line is that the Gooners need to prove themselves this year. All the activity/signings will be meaningless unless some silverware comes back to Highbury. The pressure is on, just as it should be.

I wonder if Henry is back from Pattaya yet...?

I read on another thread the Arse may be heading this way next year. You hear anything?

I went last time, missed the 1st and last Thai goals, don't recall seeing the Arse score, scared the living daylights out of one of my students 4 or 5 rows in front, and went running round NEP soaked to the skin pissed up and pissed off we lost 2-0...

Good news on Parlour

Arsenal tell West Ham: Parlour is not for sale

By Ken Dyer

Arsenal have told West Ham to forget about any possibility of England midfield star Ray Parlour moving to Upton Park.

Parlour: England international won't be leaving Gunners

West Ham made a tentative enquiry about Parlour but London Premiership rivals Arsenal are unwilling to do business.

Parlour was one of a shortlist of wanted players drawn up by new West Ham manager Glenn Roeder, along with Aston Villa goalkeeper David James, who is available for around £3.5 million.

The England keeper is now back from holiday and West Ham look likely to make an official approach later this week.

First-choice stopper Shaka Hislop had an indifferent time last season and Roeder feels that it is time to strengthen that department.

Roeder has around £16m to spend but is unlikely to follow up any interest in West Brom striker Lee Hughes.

The Birmingham-born Hughes is rated at around £4m by the First Division club but Roeder is not sufficiently interested to make a firm offer. West Ham return to pre-season training on Wednesday, with Roeder still looking for an assistant.

His No1 choice, Ray Lewington, decided to honour a promise to join his good friend Ray Wilkins and Gianluca Vialli at Watford, so Roeder will continue his search.

'It is an important decision and there is no need to hurry,' said Roeder. 'If necessary, myself and Roger Cross will take the first few sessions.'

Former West Ham and QPR goalkeeper Ludek Miklosko has been confirmed by the club as their new goalkeeping coach while John McCarthy has been appointed fitness coach.

McCarthy, who specialises in sports science and psychology, has also been involved with Celtic, Liverpool, Blackburn and Derby as well as Essex, Kent and Middlesex cricket clubs.

Arsenal's French striker Sylvain Wiltord today said he is staying at High-bury after thrashing out a peace pact with manager Arsene Wenger.

Wiltord's future has been the subject of much speculation following the £10m arrival of Francis Jeffers from Everton but the French star now claims he has ended his differences with Wenger and is ready to stay and fight for his place.

Wiltord said: 'I want to explode with Arsenal. Everything is now clear between Arsene and me. I am staying at Arsenal and I hope to do great things this season.

'I have had a man-to-man talk with Arsene and, naturally, I'll be calling him before I report for training next week. I know his thoughts deep down and he knows mine.

'There are trophies to win and, unless there is a change of heart from the club, I want to help them win some.'
