President-elect promised change, picking insiders

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama promised the voters change but has started his Cabinet selection process by naming several Washington insiders to top posts.

Obama is enlisting former Senate leader Tom Daschle as his health secretary. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a well-known Washington personality, seemed more likely than ever to be his secretary of state. Clinton is deciding whether to take that post as America's top diplomat, her associates said Wednesday

Obama is ready to announce that his attorney general will be Eric Holder, the Justice Department's No. 2 when Clinton's husband was president. Rahm Emanuel, Obama's chief of staff, is another veteran of the Clinton White House.

...

Republicans sniped at what they saw as an unwelcome trend. Alex Conant, spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said, "Barack Obama is filling his administration with longtime Washington insiders."

Same old shit

Carter picked all outsiders and couldn't get anthing done with an overwhelmingly Democratic congress.

Insiders who will go along with change is what he's going for it seems. Easier said than done I say.

Pick outsiders and no one will work with them. They won't be trusted by anyone.

The 'good' thing for Obama is that the Dems don't want to eff it up and he campaigned on change so I would think they are going to try and deliver on some of that.

So, let's analyze this.

Cabinet level positions are generally regarded as needing to be filled by someone with connections & experience, right?

The only Dem prez in the last 28 years was Bill Clinton.

Therefore, those experienced people WILL have one thing in common: they likely had some contact with the Clinton administration in their past.

Just more right wing whinging. If Obama picked inexperienced people, they'd still be having a cow.

Cheers,

SD
