..
As suspected, much ado about nothing. The landlords have given a three month extension to most leases, making it March 09. All indications are that they are going to go year-to-year after that. But since TIT, we'll wait and see. The only thing different now is that Squaronians are dealing with the real land owner now, not a subleaser (they did not renew his lease). That has to be a better thing IMHO. Ed Zeppelin
I hope it stays. I'll really miss it if it went.
waerth
In 2001-2002 I used to go to WS a lot. Have recently re-acquainted with the Square. It is a nice quiet place and it would be a shame if it had to go.

The_Munchmaster
There's nothing there Kamui, just a couple of run down coffee shops, a soup kitchen and a katoey massage parlour. No reason whatsoever to go there.
Flashermac
It's an old area popular with expats, but anyone is welcome. Bourbon Street restaurant has good food. The other places are mostly gogo bars. http://bangkok.baronbonk.com/washingtonsquare_september_2007.shtml http://mekhongkurt.wordpress.com/2008/02/06/washington-square-bangkok/
Old Hippie
I have never been there. Is this am expat place? Basically, old bars with old patrons. Some of the original legends (those still living) make their homes here. I love the place, visit it often when in town. Well worth a look, as is Crown Royal in Patpong, and Madrid also in Patpong. samak
The other places are mostly gogo bars. you have not been in WS for years! during the last 10 years there was only one time for a couple of months a gogo bar, when Taffy, the owner of New Square One thought, it would be a good idea to set up a gogo stage! there are just normal bars with most of the BG's approaching their expiry date
