Ratri Entwistle, 32, of Rokeby Street, Rugby, was given a 12-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to unlawfully wounding her husband Stephen Entwistle. She stabbed the 53-year-old after a row in their kitchen. But Mr. Entwistle said he did not want his wife to be jailed for what she did. The couple met in Thailand in 2004 and married in this country in November last year. Their relationship was described at Warwick Crown Court as 'fairly harmonious', although Ratri was given a police caution for scratching her husband's face and neck during an argument. They got over their difficulties, and in February this year they went to Thailand where they married again in a Thai ceremony, followed by 'a wonderful few months there'. But after the couple returned to Rugby the marriage ran into difficulty, and in July Mr. Entwistle was struck by his wife when she was drunk, although that was not reported. The following month Ratri, who had obtained work as a cleaner in a hospital, came home and began drinking â?? and when Mr. Entwistle returned she was spoiling for an argument. He called the police after she became violent - so she picked up a knife and stabbed him in the side of his chest. Ratri lunged at him again, and when he put his arm up to defend himself the knife struck his left hand, cutting it badly and severing the main tendon to his thumb â?? as a result of which he still does not have full use of his hand. When she was arrested Ratri accepted she had poked her husband with a knife, explaining that she was frightened because he was calling the police which she thought would lead to her being sent back to Thailand. Simon Ward, defending, said: "Plainly this was a short-lived marriage which did not work." They have both started divorce proceedings although they do not agree whose behaviour led to the break-down of the marriage.
