UDD asks Asean members to skip summit

More than 100 supporters of United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) handed letters to the Burma and Singapore embassies in Bangkok on Friday, asking their governments to skip the 14th Asean Summit to be held in Hua Hin late February.

The move was led by former prime minister's office minister Jakrapob Penkair.

According to the letters, the government under the lead of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva "does not democratically represent the people of Thailand."

Mr Jakrapob said that the government comes into existence only because of the heavy manoeuvering of "undemocratic external forces."

"At the outlook, his coalition resembles the one with legitimate majority and seems politically qualified, but the very concept of such government can't be remotely considered democratic," he told reporters.

Mr Jakrapob also criticised Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, who is linked to the People's Alliance for Democracy.

The red-shirt group plans to visit seven embassies of Asean countries next week to hand over the letters asking their governments to shun the summihttp://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/135984/udd-asks-asean-members-to-skip-summitt

So, let's analyze.

UDD knows that their domestic agenda is shit, so they want to interfere with regional politics and piss off the neighbors.

The yellows concentrate on what's important: local stuff.

Who do you want to support? No brainer, innit? Innit?

Cheers,

SD

UDD threatens to blockade Govt House

PM The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) threatened to protest and blockade Government House on Saturday, if the government ceases to take legal action against the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

UDD core figures Jaran Ditapichai, Chinawat Habunpad and Viputhalaeng Pattanaphumthai handed a letter to Prime Minister's deputy secretary-general Sutham Limsuwankasem, asking the government to take legal action against the PAD after the group laid siege to Government House as well as Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports last year.

The UDD demanded the government to to dismiss Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya, who was one of the speakers during the PAD protests.

It also wanted the government to quickly consider the draft charter of the People Committee for 2550 Constitution Amendment.

If the demands are not met, the UDD demonstrators will march from Sanam Luang to Government House on Saturday.

UDD to hold big rally on Feb 24

PM United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) core leaders held a press conference on Thursday, calling on their red-shirt supporters to join the anti-government rally on February 24.

UDD key member and opposition Puea Thai party MP Jatuporn Prompan said the demonstration next Tuesday will again remind the coalition government led by the Democrat party to follow their four ultimatums, including dismissing Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, prosecuting People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leaders for closing Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports late last year, reinstating the 1997 Constitution, and dissolving the lower house.

UDD leaders hold a press conference on Thursday.

The UDD also demanded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban to clarify the investigation into the October 7 clash between police and People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators, which left two people killed and more than 500 injured.

According to Mr Jatuporn, public members questioned the government's report on the October 7 riot, and the government must reveal the facts without helping the PAD leaders.

He said the government also has to explain why deputy national police chief Jongrak Chutanont left the committee responsible for investigating the October 7 riot.

In other related developments, Interior Minister and Bhumjaithai party leader Chavarat Charnvirakul said his ministry has set up a centre for keeping track of protesters' movements, and it will coordinate with police forces immediately if violence breaks out.

The minister expressed his worry over the red-clad demonstrators because they may affect the government's performance and the country's economy.

Red Shirts march reaching Gov't House

Thousands of red shirts have marched from Sanam Luang and reached Government House shortly after 11.00 am on Tuesday.

Organisers have planned to set the rally stage at Chamaimaruchet Bridge in front of the government compound. They will also block two of four entrances.

In comparison to the January 31 march, the number of red shirts are lower than expected. Police can still leave traffic open around Government House.
