The Midnight Sky (2020)

George Clooney, normally an actor who can turn up, smile, collect his cheque and go home.

This movie is quite good sustaining two stories and a good tie up for the finale.

Worth a watch

Wer (2020)

No spoilers, quite a good modern treatment, of a traditional Horror.

Worth a watch

The Serpent [2020 TV limited series]
Crime drama series based on the true story of Charles Sobhraj,  the 70's hippy trail conman and murderer. This is more impressive for the re-imagining of Bangkok and the Far East in the 1970's that somehow impresses those of us who remember it from then, whereas the crime drama itself is a confusing overkill of time leaps back and forth with a good lead albeit wooden and at times annoying support cast.

New Frontier (1939)

The Three Mesquiteers convince a group of settlers to exchange their present property for some which, unbeknownst to our good guys, is going to be worthless.  Black and White, John Wayne, simpler times. Happy days.

Action U.S.A. (1989)

Cops, bad guys, breasts. A pleasant buddy cop movie. Worth a watch.

Einstein's Universe (1979)

A documentary produced in 1979 to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Albert Einstein. Narrated and hosted by Peter Ustinov and written by Nigel Calder. You can tell this was made in '79. Ustinov makes humour. I can't help feeling the physics may have moved on a bit since then.

The Puppet Masters (1994)

Sci Fi, Donald Sutherland, verging on dross.

News of the World (2020)

That young Tom Hanks is turning out to be a pretty good actor, he rescues a girl in the olden west. Very Good.

Excursion (2019) a.k.a. Dangerous Excursion

A mystery thriller about a 1980's devoted Czechoslovakian communist party member visiting his future self in London (UK), to make sure Socialism still prospers.

I don't know if I'd call it a thriller, but there's quite a lot of good in this flick with some good performances in limited settings.

Worth a watch

Honkytonk Man (1982)

Clint Eastwood, depression times, he's a singer, all kinds of music, Country and Western. Who knew Clint could sing? And he's got this really bad cough and a penchant for the bottle. Better than you'd think, well worth a watch.

Six Minutes to Midnight (2020)

UK, Aug. 15, 1939:    17 days before WWII,   an English teacher and his camera disappear on a coastal boarding school.

Nazi Girl's school, Bexhill-on-Sea, Eddie Izzard, Judi Dench, Carla Juri, James D'Arcy, Jim Broadbent, lots to love.

Well worth a watch.

News Of The World [2020]
A civil war vet working as wild west news reporter comes across a stranded German immigrant orphan since kidnapped by local Kiowa tribes.  Thus begins a slow and incident laden road trip for the pair to find a home told in a trusted and tried old Western format, with two expert leads and top directing to keep us interested. Worth seeing when the mood suits.

Pieces Of A Woman [2020]
Memorable opening thirty minute segment of this US drama before the opening title shows a young couples home birth end tragically, which is then followed by ninety minutes of pointless efforts by family members to hold the midwife accountable. A downer of a story, well acted but only held together by a dominant lead.

I saw this, it seemed like it was going to be interesting, to be honest my wife put it on thinking it was a horror movie going on title alone

The beginning was good/interesting but after that disappeared up it's own arse,

The woman was a stupid cow by the way, the mother a bitch, and not sure why the husband was painted the bad guy, he was living with bitches, a train ticket from the mum would have gotten me out of that pain
