Vikings: Valhalla

TV series. Set some hundred years, after the very good (patchy near the end) series of series, this is seemingly quite good, I'm 6 episodes into the 8 episode run. Michael Hurst of the originals, Executive Produces this.

It may be that I'm old and crochety and weary of the, millennial prayer phone adherents, but:

In the 1st episodes, I thought they'd found, two more Hemsworth brothers, to grace our screens, handsome devils they are.

Not a spoiler, well for technical nerds like me, it could be, there's a bit where they make passable surf boards, out of split oak logs. I though that surf boards came out of Polynesia, and only to the European world after the Europeans got to Hawaii, 18 century-ish... And then only after the proles got "leisure" - post WW1 and 2 -

On the positive side there's Laura Berlin who's every appearance, stops my brain.

I watched it a while back and managed the whole series.  The lead Viking was much too millennial looking to be realistic IMHO.  If the series ran longer I would have quit it.

Now watching The Last Kingdom, another Viking era show.  It also has it's slow moments but I like it a lot better than Valhalla.  The movie Valhalla I mean, I don't know if I like.....never mind.

I’m confused, how can someone be millennial looking, since “the look” is based upon style of dress in what is essentially a Costume Drama?

Whilst the look that many millennials adhere to, is very similar to that of a period "Viking", the modern rendition has far too much curating and lady-like "product" applied to face, body and hairy bits, to be convincing in a period TV series.

i.e.

As we say down our way, in an approving tone, "a bit of mongrel".

Our House [2022 TV Limited Series]

Based on the novel of the same name, tells the story of a woman, who arrives home one day to find a family of strangers moving into her house and her husband disappeared. Enjoyable lightweight TV thriller for when the mood suits, some good performances, plot holes abound.
