Machine Gun Preacher 2011

Based on the true story of :: Sam Childers a former drug-dealing biker tough guy who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who've been forced to become soldiers.

Whilst there is a strong Christian flavour to this movie, don't  let that detract from an otherwise inspiring story, which is also true.

Worth a watch, inspiring.

Stephen [2021 TV Limited Series]

The true story of the ongoing struggle by Doreen and Neville Lawrence to achieve justice for their murdered son Stephen and how a detective, Clive Driscoll, put together a re-investigation that finally, more than 18 years after his death, secured the convictions of two of the gang who committed the murder before the Met finally closed the case in 2020. Decent award nominated three part ITV cop drama, covers the landmark re-investigation involving double jeopardy and institutional racism issues. Worth a look.

Lies We Tell 2017

Harvey Keitel... Gabriel Byrne... Sibylla Deen (woof)

Interesting for the portrayal of a modern Muslim family in the UK and their attitude to their daughters. Also the attitude of one daughter to becoming a P4P participant.

Despite the Muslim content, which doesn't sit well with me, it's a well paced and often surprising movie.

Worth a watch.

Killing Season 2013

Robert De Niro...John Travolta

In which a vet of the Bosnian war, a Serb (Travolta) tracks down an American participant (De Niro) and they then exchange stabbings, arrows and other attempts at death, in order to try and get closure.

An interesting vehicle for two such accomplished actors. I can't help feel that it was aimed at an audience of American survivalists.

Worth a watch.

Essential Killing 2010

A Middle Eastern person uses a rocket, to kill some Americans, in a desert somewhere. He's captured, water boarded and transported.

Then he escapes.

I found this movie absorbing, captivating and very believable.

Well worth a watch. Not the least, for a frequent, lack of dialogue.

The Anderson Tapes 1971

After Duke Anderson is released from prison after ten years for taking the rap for a scion of a Mafia family, he cashes in a debt of honor with the mob to bankroll a caper.

Sean Connery...Dyan Cannon

Quite good, interesting how the late '60s are portrayed .

Worth a watch.

The Outlaws [2021 TV Series]

Seven strangers from different walks of life, each of whom have broken the law are forced together to complete a community service sentence in Bristol, UK. A quirky six part dark comedy series, with an odd but likeable cast choice, paints such a broad brush with so much going on as to make it only mildly entertaining. More in series 2 to come.

Operation Mincemeat [2022]

During WW2, two intelligence officers use a corpse and false papers to outwit German troops before the Allied invasion of Sicily. Old school style war drama recounts the famous war deception. Good performances, plenty of intrigue, usual WW2 CGI imagery we have become used to in a rather bland production.

Everything Everywhere All At Once [2022]

An aging Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led. One of the strangest most intense action packed movies of recent times, highly inventive and original with a full range of emotions.
