The Staircase [2022 TV Limited Series]

Tells the true story of Michael Peterson, a crime novelist accused of killing his wife Kathleen after she is found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their home where only the two had stayed together, and the 16-year judicial battle that followed. This re-enactment about money and sexual deceit with a cast of A-listers is entertaining and worth seeing.

The Black Phone [2021]

After being abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement, a 13-year-old boy starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer's previous victims. A solid run of the mill B level horror flick with a lead than seems wasted.

The Road Dance [2022]

A young girl lives in the Outer Hebrides in a small village in the years just before WWI. Isolated and hard by the shore , her life takes a dramatic change when an assault befalls her after a road dance to see off her intended to the front line. Simple old school story, somewhat contrived and clichéd, done well in picturesque surroundings with a strong lead.

The Racer [2020]

Follows a support cyclist who, after being dropped from the team, is reinstated following a doping error at the opening Irish stages of the notorious 1998 Tour de France. Entertaining fast moving independent film has a good mix of story-line, cinematography, with some realistic performances. Worth a look.

Skin [2019]

A skinhead falls for a woman and her three daughters, and undergoes painful treatments to remove all the tattoos covering his entire face and body - the physical representation of the racist hate he exhibited to the world for more than half his life before he changed it around. Based on the true story of Bryon Widner, a gritty biography, with a superb lead, worth seeing.

Let Him Go

Let Him Go is a 2020 American neo-western film starring Diane Lane and Kevin Costner. Directed, written, and co-produced by Thomas Bezucha, it is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Larry Watson. The film follows a retired sheriff (Costner) and his wife (Lane) who try to rescue their grandson from a dangerous family living off-the-grid. It also stars Lesley Manville, Kayli Carter, Will Brittain, and Jeffrey Donovan.

In Montana, 1961, retired sheriff George Blackledge lives on a ranch with his wife Margaret, their son James, James's wife Lorna and infant son Jimmy. One afternoon, Margaret sees James's horse out on its own and senses something is wrong. When George goes out to the woods, he finds James's body by the creek; he had fallen off his horse and broken his neck.

In 1963, Lorna marries her new boyfriend, Donnie Weboy; it is obvious Lorna is not in love with Donnie but needs his support with Jimmy. One afternoon while out shopping, Margaret sees Lorna, Donnie and Jimmy getting ice cream. When Jimmy drops his, Donnie forcefully grabs Jimmy's arm and, when Lorna steps in, Donnie strikes her. Margaret later goes to their house to check in on Lorna, but a tenant tells her the three of them have left town. Margaret goes home and packs her bags with the intent of going to rescue Jimmy, and although George is reluctant, he joins her...

If ya wanna see a flick about white trash, this is it... ****

Amsterdam 2022  R  2h 14m

In the 1930s, three friends witness a murder, are framed for it, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.

Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Timothy Olyphant, Zoe Saldana, Rami Malek, Robert De Niro, Ed Begley Jr.    et al.

With such a good cast, it's watch-able for the acting alone.

The story is obviously "Hollywood" for the commercial success they are aiming for.

It's based on real history.

Wanna know more? (not mis-information),  have a listen to Rachel Maddow's podcast  "Ultra" which details the real Nazi Plot to over throw the USA government, in the '40's. Yes this actually happened.
