Nightlife in Laos, is there any?

I only found the following recommendation:

------

General:

If you want a woman in Laos, hook up with a Vietnamese woman.

If you want a Laos woman, get one in Thailand.

Be aware that in Laos it is illegal for a Lao citizen, male or female, to have sex with a non Laos if you are not married. You can be fined and deported. Having said this, there is a p4p scene, but you have been warned.

Vientiane

Don Chan Palace has a disco where you can meet ladies; Kob Jai Der and Borpenyang bars are notorious pick up joints. There are a number of other discos around - eg Penguin, the one at the Novotel, etc

Nightlife in Vientiane

I'm not sure that "club scene, nightlife" and Laos should even be put in the same sentence. I suppose the term "evening time",such as it is, more accurately describes this fabulous land of smiles (or to be exact "Land Of A Million Elephants"). This old landlocked French colonial outpost was closed to tourists until 1988, so it's still incredibly unspolit and incredibly beautiful - let's try and keep it that way.

Vientiane, the capital, described in 1975 as a place in which: ‘The brothels are cleaner than the hotels, marijuana is cheaper than pipe tobacco and opium easier to find than a cold glass of beer’ is no longer. Most of the bars, restaurants and discos close by 11.30 pm or midnight at the latest, and the brothels are prohibited.

Vientiane has a few clubs, Well, actually let's say ‘discos’, although don't be suprised if most of the music is live. If you've never heard electrified Lao folk music - well, an experience awaits you.

Vienglatry May, on Thanon Lan Xang, is open until midnight and still the most popular place in town. Basically a dance floor, surrounded on three sides by padded sofas and tables, the club features live Lao bands nightly and also serves food, beer and spirits. By 10.30 pm the place is usually packed. Also try Blue Star and Marina, on Thanon Luang Prabang. The Blue Star has the best Lao house band in town, set to a back drop of whirling lights and romantically dark seating areas!

At some of these places a charge will be tacked onto your bill if you are male and one of the female staff comes and sits at your table. The best are Anou Cabaret (at the Anou Hotel), Victory Discoteque (Saysana Hotel), Le Club Disco (Lao Plaza Hotel) and the Novotel - usually open later then 11.30.

Most of the bar scene is in the hotels, but wander a little and the Samlo Pub (on Thanon Setthathilat) or Bar Namphu on Fountain Circle are both really good. If you're into really exploring, try one the many bia sot bars (selling draught beer) around town. Mostly non-descript rooms filled with wooden tables at the bottom of a shophouse, look for plastic jugs of beer on the tables - and a good time WILL be had, a by all.

Nightlife in Luang Prabang

It's the old, ancient and royal capital of Laos and not a place for night owls. The streets empty fast, and most places wind down early, so most tend to stay on drinking where they ate

On Xiang Thong there's the Le Tam Tam Garden - lots of pot plants, fairy lights, two pool tables and a karaoke bar - and the bare but sports-loving Nao’s Place, packed on game nights thanks to the big screen TV. The spot where the Nam Khan river turns near Wat Aphay has given rise to the Hive Bar, a moody chillout space that advertises tapas and home made peanut butter. Adjacent is the Lao Lao Garden. Lao Lao is the country’s popular rice-based tipple and the garden offers deals on a variety of fresh juices with the brew, alongside burgers and a barbeque.

If you are feeling a little more intrepid, then talk to your tuk tuk driver about a visit out to Dao Fa Nightclub or Duang Champa on the outskirts of town. These two spots (make that the only two spots) are where the Lao youth go to party; the former a smaller affair with its DJ shouting above hip hop and Lao pop tracks, and the latter larger, with an industrial Asian kitsch thing going on. But be warned, this is an After Hours night out in the sense that you get to stay up until midnight - at which point the lights bang on, and the dance floor promptly clears.
