Forcing a girl to take it up the ass to get her 1k baht ST is “despicableâ€Â. Double pricing at worst is unfair, and as far as I’m concerned it’s just free market capitalism at work. The difference in Thailand is it is executed along strictly racial lines. In Thailand, if you look Asian, you get the local price. ... The longer SD stays in Asia, the more he looks Asian (and a 30-ish Asian, at that). In another five years, he won't have to produce local ID. One sign written in Thai, using Thai numbers, detailing the rates, another in English with our rates. The difference has been over one thousand Baht per room, per night. It may surprise you to know that quite a lot of Thai's have money these days and like to go to the same places that we do... And there are hotels in LoS that will not allow Thais to rent a room there... And there are plenty advertising LoS residents (Thai or farang) discount rates because biz is down. It should be displayed, no? I can understand Thais or expats getting a discount or entering free any facility supported by taxpayers..but Siam Paragon Ocean World or other private enterprises are justified in overcharging people or tricking them with unreadable signs? Every casino attraction/show in Las Vegas has locals rates. There is no sign for this. You just ask & show your ID. Usually ~50% off. Guest lazyphil Posted July 22, 2009 Report Share Posted July 22, 2009 but a local could be black white navajo arab asian etc.....same here, prove you're a local within a 12 mile radius is the critera for kings college chapel for example and you go in free, outside the radius you pay, dont matter if you're from bangkok or barnsley you pay the same fee!! but as i said, in los just put up with it, its totally wrong but its all about conditioning and sd you are conditioned!!! I still ask for the menu in Thai anyway ... force of habit. I once told a friend I'd seen a big banner out in front of a Bangkok MP advertising a special rate for the week. The guy went over and asked for it. They insisted there was no such special rate. He replied that the sign outside said there was. They got quite angry at that, asking quite bluntly what business a Farang had being able to read Thai! He left rather than pay double what the sign said. He asked why and was told that was the rate for foreigners. He insisted he had never paid that much before, and they reluctantly admitted it was because they'd mistaken him for a Chinese-Thai. I know another Chinese-American who keeps his mouth shut when he goes anywhere ... and gets the local price. Thus it is in a sense racism. Same sort of thing happened to me in Chiang Mai. It was a simple Moo-Ga-Tar (sic) restaurant near Anusarn Market. English banner said "99 Baht", and the Thai banner next to it said "69 Baht" in Thai script. (With Thai numerals, not Roman). Just out of interest I asked if I could have the 69 baht price and they got quite incredulous and shitty because I was able to read the Thai sign.
