Palatkik
I found out when I went upcountry where I still am today. There is absolutely no 3G available from AIS, DTAC or True in most places. They just have Edge or plain old Gprs. There are 3G billboard adverts abound though from CAT CDMA system. It certainly kicks arse vs an EDGE connection. I get about 1.2mbs max on an advertised 3.1mbs system - so faster than Edge. Politics will play a role for some time to come I am sure if CAT is already here? Palatkik
Any one figure it out yet? That looks like an ad for a 3G USB modem from a service provider that doesn't have 3G except in Paragon Shopping Mall! The 699THB rate looks comparable to normal low bandwidth GPRS/Edge rates. There are lots of 3G ready phones with modems in the shops also which aren't tied to an account. I bought my first one two years ago in Bangkok. It's already grown out of date before a 3G service provider has arrived in Thailand:-)
WorldFun
yes cat cdma has good data speeds, but isn't really 3G either as e.g. video calls aren't available. also it;s available in many provinces, but NOT in Bangkok metro thus never a major player (yet) interesting times ahead & and service offerings can only improve lets see - for now however with bkk as base true move looks like the best bet for internet/high speed options if not all all across the board
WorldFun
well cdma 2000 also is available in bkk & 24 other central/eastern provinces covering pattaya etc, but that's on 'hutch' network (by cat) & the high speed still not rolled out that much beyond key central areas, but yeah it would cover more than True Move, but speeds bit lower ~2Mbps max or so else ~150bps in '1x' areas & 0kbps (as no data roaming agreement with cat cdma) in remaining 51 upcountry provinces LOL http://www.hutch.co.th/networkcoverage/faq_en.htm
