radioman
Is it possible to rent a room similar to those many of the BG's (and others) often stay in. I'm talking about a one room with attached bathroom and small balcony. I hear these go for about 3 to 4k a month and would happily pay a year down for such, would make a useful crash pad when in town or in lieu of an ST room at a hotel type of deal. Just not sure if a foreigner can walk in and sign up for one of these.

cavanami
Can. Many, many places. Jaru House in my area, 3500 Baht / month, off Soi 93 Suk. Where I exercise and swim, On Nut Road, about Soi 44, 3500 Baht / month.
radioman
Hmm that easy eh? Guess I need to dig into the sois a bit deeper. On Nut and 93 a bit far out, Somewhere in the odd 50's or even 30's would be okay though
The_Munchmaster
Try Liberty Place on Suk Soi 22. The front part of the building is relatively new (1995) but the back part is much older and exactly what you've described. Don't know the prices, probably a bit more expensive than further out of town, but great location.
acockasian
Even better than Liberty is Peter Court two hundred meters away. Full of girls from Soi Cowboy and the price range you are looking at.

acockasian
Stand at Liberty or, even better, the once famous New Cowboy bar. Walk towards Sukhumvit and take the very first left. Maybe a hundred feet to the soi and then another hundred feet in. Office is at the far end of the building. Very falang friendly at one time but I don't know if that has changed and falang are now charged more. Might even have a Thai friend see if there is a sign out or ask for you first. shygye
A couple of klics down Soi 16 you'll find some Thai style apartments. You will have to be comfortable taking mototaxis to Suk.
