torrenova Posted December 12, 2009 Report Share Posted December 12, 2009 I've gone over this question in my mind and run through countless scenarios over the years, some out of despair but most as a hobby come trying to understand their psyche and the examples where I can say yes, you can take them out of the bar, are very few indeed. As I experience and learn more, I adjust my beliefs but I surprised myself in changing my view that it was better and easier to get them out of the bar when you lived in LOS rather than taking them out of the country. I had gone over all the internal and external financial issues and "obligations" and waded through the bullshit until I was floundering but I had overlooked a crucial point. I had singularly ignored the income derived from her work in your country. Be that rather mundane, care work, minimum wage or thereabouts, office cleaning or restaurant type labour, I had ignored the income it produces, not in the local currency but in Thai baht. 40 hours a week at minimum wage (around £6 per hour) in the UK brings in about 50,000 baht per month after taxes. I had failed to contrast that with the "work" required to obtain that amount of money in the bar game, if indeed they were ever able to reach that figure. I had also ignored the fact that it would all be presented at one time and most likely be the largest sum of money they had ever seen. Someone giving a live in Bt50,000 a month would be able to choose almost at will from the full selection of available girls in Thailand and yet to the girl, she can get this massive sum, every month, for some moderate labour and most importantly, only having to fuck one guy. Of course, expectations can change when she is in the west but that is another argument. I had failed to see it from their eyes that as long as the guy was not too bad, they could really never expect to get so much without having to at least sometimes fuck guys who were much worse and thus, it was a very important part of their decision making process. Not only that, but it also overcomes the level at which their basic desire to remain in Thailand is paramount. For some, it is little more than a marriage of convenience with a pay check of Bt50,000 a month and a expat posting to Europe, the USA or Oz. They're not computers, every girl thinks different, same as you and me. And working 40 hours of cleaning in a week and probably taking care of a family is fucking hard work. Anybody who is willing to put in that kind of labour deserves my respect, especially in a job that most people on this board wouldn't want to do for themselves. I know some girls here who are prostitutes to support their not-so-wealthy farang husbands. Never had the nerve to ask if they knew it, too... This can often lead to dubious part time employment, late night card games and frequent casino visits. One of the most depressing things for me was the lack of any casinos in BKK. wtf? How in the hell can you respectfully call yourself some sort of adult playground and cosmopolitan center with an open culture and NOT have a casino? Two of my favorite past-times here are Pot-Limit Omaha and No-limit Hold-Em. Was looking forward to trying out some tables in LOS, little did I know... (yeah, you can play online, but who the freak wants to travel 8 billion miles to play online?). Oh well. Thai women are still amongst the most beautiful in the world, so us saps will continue to make that swim upstream. But it'd be nice to sit down with some of the other travelers/locals and play poker.
