New points system approved

The top ten finishers in a Grand Prix will score points next season under a new system ratified by the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) on Friday.

[color:blue]The race winner will take 25 points, with 20 and 15 being awarded for second and third places respectively. The next seven finishers will score 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively. It replaces the current structure of the top eight drivers scoring 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively and takes into account the expansion of the grid to 13 teams for 2010.[/color]

Friday’s WMSC meeting agreed a number of other changes for 2010, including the use of experienced former F1 drivers to assist stewards in decision making relating to race incidents. A permanent panel of three FIA stewards will now attend every Grand Prix, joined by an additional local steward at each race.

Somebody who has been to the annual Ferrari Christmas meeting said that ze Schumi was not (!) there and nobody did even bother to mention him in any of the speeches . A couple of weeks ago at the official presentation of the 458 Italia ze Schumi was still there in a white suit obviously showing total innocence . Some things seem to have changed over a few weeks . It would be great to see him driving again , though preferably for the Scuderia

Ferrari won't stop Schumacher from a Mercedes deal

15-12-09 Rumours that Michael Schumacher will make an F1 comeback with the new Mercedes GP team (formerly Brawn GP) have been milling around for quite a while now. And Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has announced that if Schumacher wants to go ahead and join Mercedes, Ferrari will not try and stop him. Montezemolo declared that if Schumacher wished to actively race for another team, he could do so, but it would mean the termination of his role as a consultant to the Ferrari team. However, he also announced that Schumacher has not yet broached the topic with him.

Lotus boss accepts Branson's bet

At the Virgin Racing launch in London on Tuesday, ESPNF1 asked Sir Richard Branson to comment on the statement made by Lotus boss Tony Fernandes that he would "retire and kill himself" if his squad were beaten by Virgin in 2010.

In return Branson issued a challenge to Fernandes. He said that the losing team's boss should work on the winner's airline for a day dressed as a stewardess.

"Bring it on, the sexier the better," said Fernandes when asked by ESPNF1 if he would accept the challenge.

Lotus has even gone one step further by sending us a picture of what Branson might look like in Air Asia uniform.

"It's quite fitting, don't you think? Our passengers will be delighted to be served by a Knight of the Realm," joked Fernandes. "But knowing Richard, the real challenge will be to prevent him from asking our guests 'coffee, tea or me?' That would be scary."
