The boxes in the room allow a dishonest person to work in private. It may surprise you, that it is not uncommon that the safe boxes at reception in small or cheapish hotels do have their safe boxes broken into, from time to time, whilst the staff were up making a Samsong and coke, and miraculously, the security cameras were not turned on.
