[color:red]The Democrat Party is gathering evidence to seek the dissolution of the Puea Thai Party after some opposition MPs were accused of violating the constitution in speeches they made at red shirt rallies. :content:

Democrat MP for Bangkok Watchara Phetthong said he and the party's legal team were gathering evidence which includes photographs, video footage and audio records of the Puea Thai MPs speeches made on stage at the red shirts' demonstrations.

The evidence will be used to back a petition for the Election Commission and the Office of the Attorney-General to dissolve Puea Thai, he said.

Mr Watchara said he would also ask Senate Speaker Prasobsuk Boondej to impeach the Puea Thai MPs who spoke on the red shirt stage.

He said he expected to lodge the petitions within two to three weeks.

[color:blue]He has accused the Puea Thai MPs of violating the constitution by using their speeches at the red shirt rallies to incite people to topple the government, change the country's administrative system and set up a new Thai state.

Mr Watchara alleged that the accused Puea Thai MPs had committed multiple violations of the constitution.

Prakiat Nasimma, a Puea Thai list MP and member of the party's legal team, said the Democrat petitions were groundless as red shirt demonstrators had only called for a lower House dissolution and a general election.

He believed the petitions would be rejected by the EC and the attorney-general.

Leading an invasion of parliament etc doesn't count ...

DP very well knows that PT will win elections, so they'll have their buddies at the courts ban PT.

same same the previous two governments: yellow arses didn't want them, so just file a bogus complaints until your own party's in power.

"democrat party" needs a name-change asap...

Stupid move. Also banning democrats is dumb even if they are 100 percent guilty. Country needs to have a vote in 3 4 months. Then AGRÉ3 on the results regardless who wins. The continual disbanding of parties, and democrats look like being next is as bad as the lm laws

It's interesting that the EC earlier decided that there were no grounds to dissolve the Democrats, but that that they'd leave the final decision to the Chairman of the EC. He also said that there was no reason to dissolve the Democrats. and then.....

A Red mob stormed the EC building, clashed with and got past the military/police guards, got into the EC offices, and then gave death threats to the EC.

Shortly afterwards, the EC votes 4 in favor of (none against) dissolving the Democrat party.

Democracy at it's finest!

This whole way of dissolving political parties seems bizarre. It's like awarding a penalty kick but with no keeper allowed on the pitch.

This is one that transcends whichever side you're on. It's inane to have a punishment for violations be totally dissolving the political party, whichever party was guilty.

It's akin to punishing a murderer by executing his whole family.

I think it goes to expose a Thai way of thinking about power: all or nothing. You're completely in power or you're completely out of it. No in between. Checks and balances are something that of course are meant to be systematically destroyed by whoever achieves power, it goes without saying.

Their problem isn't so much that the country is split, but that not anyone can even begin to understand the idea of being in power meaning that there are limits to those powers, that they don't become whatever you want them to be, limited only by how much you can pay. In any modern country, the power of the president or PM is kept in check by congress or parliament and the judiciary. I'd say in this country, while they disagree on who they want in power, they all comlpetely agree that they want their boy to have total power and the other side none. And why shouldn't they, their education system has taught them their whole lives that this was the good proper Thai way. They've been trained to seek a god in their lives. Now that they're about to lose it, it's natural they'll seek a replacement. They've been trained to be children. And that's what we see here now.
