On Behalf Of the Rural Farang.

Look man,

Don't be like many others defending violent protest and terrorism and saying that, Thais fight for "true" democracy while farangs are just angry because they cannot go shopping and drinking (you are not saying this but you assume we are all rich business owners worrying only about losing out on profits).

I've spent a lot of time in Isarn, had a girlfriend from there for 5 years (who by the way is no longer a Thaksin supporter) and I know how poor and unjust life appears up there. I feel there pains BUT I feel nothing for this moronic red shirt movement crippling the country and nothing in their situation, IMO, justifies this movement or its actions.

My greatest grievance right now, is not any loss of income (in fact I am university student), but for my mother-in-law who because of bombings, shootings and red shirt rioting at her hospital, have been unable to get her chemotherapy for the last three weeks. She might die now because of these greedy bastards and sure as hell I am extremely upset.

"western liberal fantasy of a socialist rural utopia" or the version Kheiu Samphan came up with where you empower the elements of society that have been completely untouched by Western or even modern influence.

None of this useless education' date=' rules, commerce, etc.

Anyone remember where the Original Khmer got Cambodia?[/quote']

Strangely enough I think you make a very good point about the Khmer.

I don't think anyone here has affiliated the Redshirts with type of Communist thought or philosophy which was the problem with the "workers/peasant" revolution in Cambodia though.

I'm not quite certain what you mean by that.

Some of the Red Shirt leaders made some remarks that were strongly reminiscent of Maoist teachings and philosophy. The raid on the hospital was straight out of the Maoist playbook. Everywhere else on the planet, hospitals are absolutely off-limits, to BOTH sides. Everyone else on the planet agrees that the traditional white cross on red background should not become a bullseye. (Kudos to a co-worker of mine who came up with that phrase.)

It's certainly thought provoking, all I can add to that is, once again, my personal observation. The people I live amongst come across as hardline social and economic conservatives.

Communist infiltration of discontented groups is well documented in the past, I suppose that it's more than possible that it's happening at some level here. Personally I don't see it though.

" how reasonable dialogue is not possible with the “useful idiotsâ€Â; "

I just don't think that you can have a dialogue with a drunken mob when they will only follow orders from one person.

Interesting the "useful idiot" falang who was on youtube made some admissions about how spur of the moment the destruction was.

I am not even hinting at anything communist. Please reread my post. What I am referring to is how the least educated poorest strata of a society is often used as they are easy to manipulate.

Think along the lines of personality cult...someone thinking for you... Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, Thaksin.

I guess you have forgotten Iraq, Mexico, etc. where people have been killed in the hospital. No one was killed in a Thai hospital.

This all has its roots in the military coup. Shouldn't the coup leaders be tried for treason?

This is what I was more less saying earlier, that there was more to all this, and we needed to look at why. Had the coupe not occurred, than this would not have occurred...one does not excuse the other, but someone needs to look at that if they ever want to keep it from happening again.

I've just had a search to find out what I said, I'm sure I took you more seriously than that.

I did find this post by you though on your take on the situation at the time which I'm sure you won't mind me repeating.

I don’t see it getting really violent or into a civil war like you say. I just see it continuing with bickering, extreme rhetoric, and all you see now.

And up until the moderates were overthrown and the radicals took control that was what was happening.

I readily admit that I did not envisage Jatuporn, Natthawut, Arisman being in charge without Veera and Weng being able to veto them.

So, you were unable to find anywhere that I had distorted the truth, but did find an instance were I predicated the wrong outcome and did not say the redshirts would attempt to burn Bangkok down.

That certainly addresses my post, doesn’t it?

Found the thread where I tried to get you understand Thai politics and upcountry factions and you dismissed it.

Here was your response:

"Do you know all that local politics stuff Flash?

If not, shaddap, no opinion for you either.

Or does this only apply to Thaksinistas I wonder?"
