unit731
Well, this has been covered ad infinitum here. MONTRI For myself, the Montri is an excellent location. Right on the main square. Or the Gate. Good restaurant next door. All night food just down the street (left out front door). Rooms clean and price reasonable. Friendly staff. Guest friendly. Quiet rooms are in rear. View rooms in front. Does have a lift.
unit731
We got a new joiner here. And everyone on this board has been to Chiang Mai. And no one else can mention a hotel? How about a great big welcome to this new member?
chuckwoww
I can recommend a few cheap guesthouses if you don't mind cold water and the odd mosquito.

allistar
I can recommend my house but its between C.M. and Sankamphaene. No bars out there (but it would be great for the week of the Umbrella festival in January).

Saiphon
I recently spent 6 nights at the Suriwong right by the Night market, The new rooms at the back,in what I think used to be the old Star Hotel, are totally renovated and enormous in size. Cost me 1600 Baht a night. This hotel has always been totally guest friendly for me.
