UK passport replacement in Thailand

So now it says don't even talk to us at the UK embassy in Bangkok. Fill in the forms and courier to Honk Konk then wait maybe 4 weeks.

 

How friendly is that?

 

A Swedish friend says his gets done almost whilst waiting and all for 2000 baht whilst UK wants like 10000 baht plus 120 HK dollars courier fee.

 

Should I change my nationality?

If I remember correctly a previous report hinted that its better to report your passport lost or destroyed, that way you should be able to get a new one from the Bangkok office.

It costs a lot more to get a new UK passport here than at home. Don't ask me why ... greed probably.

 

The US Embassy keeps screwing around too, raising the fees every time somebody needs more beer money or whatever.

If the embassy has equipment to produce passports it might be possible otherwise it will take several days. On the other hand if a tourist loses their passport they might be issued travel documents good for a trip home but not a passport.

So has anyone experienced doing this? How can one wait 4 weeks, lots of UK expats coming and going from work staying under 4 weeks on 30 visa exempt stamps. Last time I was able to get a new pp in 10 days.

My 5th aussie passport in 12 years. All from bangkok. Turn around max 10 days. Usually 5, but they won't promise or offer.
