Pescator
I just had a weird meeting in Japan where no one but me spoke English, but some spoke Thai. Since my "technical words" Thai is better than the same in Japanese, we did the meeting in mostly Thai. Jing jing. LOL! Surreal. I met a japanese scholar in Trang a few years ago. He was with a group of other researchers surveying the population of dygongs in the area. They used ultra light aircrafts in order to get an asssesment of the actual number of dugongs. He was dressed exactly like I picture Stanley when he finally met Livingstone. Wearing a topee! and a khaki uniform. Well, we struck up a conversation in english which he was quite good at. Very interesting to hear about their conservation project. As it turned out during our conversation he had for several years studied at a Uni in Frankfurt. He was interested to know if I as a dane could speak german. The remainder of our conversation was led in german. A bit surreal too. A dane and a japanese having a conversation in german in the southern thai province of Trang. Well, I guess that is globalisation.
