Flashermac Posted August 28, 2010 Report Share Posted August 28, 2010 Bangkok Post 28 Aug 2010 NEW YORK: The 17-year-old daughter of the US ambassador to Thailand plunged to her death from a midcity luxury high-rise early Friday morning, United States media reported. Nicole John fell out of a 25th storey window of the Herald Square Towers on West 34th Street, landing on the building's third-floor overhang, according to police sources. She was found with severe trauma to the body, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A man was in custody facing charges of endangering the welfare of a minor. The man's relationship to Nicole was not immediately clear. Nicole's father, Eric John, was appointed US ambassador to Thailand in 2007. The State Department website says he and his wife Sophia also have a son Adam, who was born in Thailand. Investigators believe Nicole was part of a group of young revellers who were partying in the 25th-floor apartment near the Empire State Building in the moments before the 4.15am local time tragedy, according to sources. "They'd been drinking," said Robert Pena, the building engineer at the Herald Square Towers, who saw the pack of partygoers walking through the building's lobby just before 4am. "They'd invited some other people back from a club," Mr Pena said. Though the circumstances of Nicole's death remain under investigation, witnesses told police they thought she was leaning out of the window for some fresh air when she tipped forward and fell, the sources said. A 25-year-old man identified as the host of the part was removed from the building in handcuffs in the hour after Nicole's death, witnesses said. Police said he has been charged with supplying liquor to Nicole and other minors. Nicole graduated from the International School of Bangkok last year. According to the New York Daily News police reporters: About 10 people were inside when Nicole John took off her shoes, climbed out of the window onto a ledge and plunged to her death, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. A witness from an adjacent building saw John fall and called police, Kelly said. By the time officers arrived, the apartment had been completely cleaned up, he added. Investigators found a small camera beside her body, leading them to believe that she climbed outside to take a picture. Nicole had a fake Brazilian ID, suggesting she was 23 or 24. Flashermac Posted August 28, 2010 Author Report Share Posted August 28, 2010 Nicole John's Death: Ilan Nassimi Had Vodka, Scotch and Tequila at Fatal Party MIDTOWN  A 25-year-old man who was partying with Nicole John, the 17-year-old Parsons freshman and ambassador's daughter who plummeted 22 stories from a Herald Square apartment, described for the first time Friday the drunken debauchery that let to her fatal fall. John, who grew up in Bangkok, Thailand, where her father was the U.S. ambassador, was just starting to explore the city before classes started at Parsons. She partied Thursday night at Tenjune, a club in the Meatpacking District, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters. After the club, Ilan Nassimi, 25, and more than a dozen revelers packed into his 50 W. 34th Street apartment to drink and smoke, police said. "I told several people that I wanted to host an after-party, and over a dozen people packed into taxis/limos and headed over," Nassimi told police in an interview, according to the criminal complaint. Nassimi was charged Friday for allegedly serving and selling alcohol to minors. He was escorted out of the Midtown South Precinct house later Friday afternoon and arraigned in the evening. "During the party there was drinking and smoking," he told police, according to the complaint. Police said Nassimi's apartment appeared to have been cleaned before they arrived on the scene. Police at the scene testified that they an empty bottle of Patron on the window sill, a bottle of Sky vodka in the freezer and an empty bottle of Glenlivet and an empty bottle of Belvedere line up on a shelf. She had a fake ID from Brazil on her, police said, that put her age at 23. After leaving the club at roughly 2:15 a.m., John and nearly 20 other young people ended up back at Nassimi's apartment about 4:30 a.m. Police said that at least three of the people were underage at the party. Building engineer Robert Pena told DNAinfo that a group of teenage-looking revelers showed up at the posh residences after 4 a.m. Some of the girls in the group were so drunk they could barely stand up, he said. In apartment 25C4, John took off her shoes and climbed out onto the ledge. A camera was found near her body, police said, adding it was unclear whether she wanted to take a picture out there. Nassimi's mother, Soleh Ijadi, was shocked when she learned of the tragic incident from DNAinfo. “Seventeen years old? Oh, my God,†gasped Ijadi. “I’m a mother. Oh my God, what can I do?†According to his LinkedIn profile, Nassimi started up his own venture capital firm last August, Illan Enterprises, and was a commercial broker for the real estate firm Metropolitan Property Group. The company had no comment Friday. He is also listed as having attended a Baruch College's Zicklin School and SUNY Stony Brook. He's also the founder of thelimed.com, an online jewelry vendor. Kelly said Nassimi's apartment was cleaned up when investigators arrived. "There was no alcohol. No indication of a party going on," Kelly said. "Some effort was made to clear up the site."
