It began in a folk tradition of storytelling and was written down in the nineteenth century with two kings among the authors. Critics have called for it to be banned or burned; fans celebrate it as a wonderful story and unrivalled storehouse of old Thai culture. It has now been translated for the first time by Chris Baker and Pasuk Phongpaichit, who will present the poem and read extracts. Copies will be available at a discounted price. Flashermac
The most famous sexist work of literature. Women aren't good for anything but shagging and when you are tired of them you can whack them. No wonder the Thais love it.

Flashermac
This is khun (rising tone), the lowest royally bestowed title in former years. Means the men were more than just proles, but not very much more. The poor gal is torn between two lovers. When she cannot decide which one she wants, the King gets pissed off and has her executed. Typical Thai ending. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khun_Chang_Khun_Phaen
