Old Hippie
Admittedly, I have not read all the posts regarding mines so this may have been said already. I'm not gonna comment on the merits of it or the ethics of it, we can all make our own opinions on it. I will say this though, its a non starter in terms of it actually coming to frution and being a reality. There is no way on God's green earth that America will lay land mines on the border. From the ACLU to what ever group that starts with Z, it won't ever happen. The international community will be up in arms (if we care to even heed them). I am no expert on border patrol but I do know if we wanted to we could secure it. There just isn't the motivation. I said this before, if we knew that al Qaida or some such similar threat are planning to come across the border or a domestic act of terrorism happened from someone coming across the southern border, you can bet pretty damn quick, we'd secure it pronto. There would b a public demand and I fear that is the only way it will ever be secured. Lives will have to be lost first...well, at least American lives. Steve I agree with you. All I am saying is, landmines would work so would military patrols, it will take drastic measures, all very unpleasant...but it will never happen. We will continue to allow these people to drain our resources and be a plague on our country. It will only get worse the more we do nothing... Hugh_Hoy
For the record, I didn't vote for our idiot-in-chief. I wonder what Hillary Clinton thought about that one. Maybe he was straying from his teleprompter and his leftist DNA seeped out? BTW, in response to Obama's call for more "civil" rehetoric, notice that I didn't call him "asshole-in chief" or "fuckstick-in-chief". HH
Old Hippie
I did vote for him, and I am appalled by this.
Hugh_Hoy
I always wondered if you were a SFO over-sensitive wuss. Now I know. :content: HH
Old Hippie
Just got done scraping the Obama bumper sticker off my car, and mailed a check to the NRA and the CPRA as well...
chuckwoww
Don't know about landmines but I suspect Obama's remarks to Sarkozy are part of the Lebanon plan. Somebody is trying to get a civil war going there and French help is needed.
cavanami
My NO on the landmines! Too many problems; innocents getting injured, difficult to remove, etc.
Flashermac
I was trained in mine warfare once upon a time. Back then mines were made of metal and not that hard to detect. Nowadays they are plastic with chemical detonators - much nastier things. I'm glad I'm not a combat engineer these days! Icks-nay on the mine. Send the USMC instead, since they seem to be specialising in desert warfare these days any way. Also, remount the cavalry and have them patrol the border on horseback as they did during WWII. Steve
Yesterday, I saw a CNN clip where it showed several people, including Bush, Rice, Hillary Clinton, Cheney and a few others saying the same thing as Obama about Israel, Canada, Korea and several other countries. Almost quoting each one said 'no greater friend and ally' Apparantly its said quite a few times but this one got ink. I was shocked initially but see it in a different context now. Still, its not a good thing to do. The word 'special' is only used for England as far as I know.
Flashermac
You'd figure they could find a "greater friend and ally" than one that's only about the size of the San Fernando valley.
