Amongst the richest Washington, in today’s dollars, half a billion. “Washington made significantly more than subsequent presidents: his salary was two percent of the total U.S. budget in 1789.†Also Teddy Roosevelt (about 125 mil) Hoover was worth more than FDR! JFK, LBJ were worth a lot as well.

Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln, Grant and Truman amongst them.

Truman “ It was Truman’s sad financial state that inspired the doubling of the presidential salary, which he received after the fact. Truman and his wife were the first two official recipients of Medicare when Lyndon Johnson signed the program into law.â€

Four killed in US spy plane crash: US military

Four American special operations personnel were killed over the weekend in the crash of their aircraft in Djibouti as it returned from a mission, the US military said Monday.

The U-28, a modified single engine turbo prop plane used by special operations units, crashed Saturday near Camp Lemonnier, a base used by the US military in the tiny Horn of Africa state.

The Pentagon identified the victims as Captain Ryan Hall, 30, Captain Nicholas Whitlock, First Lieutenant Justin Wilkins, and senior airman Julian Scholten, 26.

The four were based in Hulbert Field, Florida where they were assigned to special operations and intelligence squadrons.

The US Africa Command said the U-28 was on a "routine flight" when it went down six miles (10 kilometers) from the Djibouti International Airport.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

I doubt the standard 'traning mission' excuse that's always trotted out. RIP to them. I don't know how much special forces guys are paid (I read it once, can't recall) but whatever it is, it ain't enough.

I would not like to know that ANY of them or their families are struggling financially and if they die, the amount their families get should be a good sum. I hope it is.

I'd also like to see us cut a lot of the fat from the defense budget and use some of the savings on wages, benefits, medical care, etc. on the soldiers. The ones who are actually doing the hard work.

The VA should be one of the most state of art hospitals. I don't know how they are but if it isn't, something is terribly wrong.

Mitt Romney's burn rate is boon for Borat Obama

Mitt Romney is burning through cash more than twice as fast as he’s raising it, new reports filed Monday show — a clear sign that a protracted GOP primary fight could leave the front-runner limping into a general election fight with President Barack Obama.

Romney’s presidential campaign and the super PAC supporting him pulled in $13.1 million in January, but spent $32.7 million in the same month — an astounding burn rate more than double any of his rivals’ campaigns or super PACs.

The filings also show Romney’s fundraising operation is struggling to pick up momentum, seeing a minimal surge in cash after his big New Hampshire win, and a plunge after his South Carolina loss.

While Romney’s campaign and his super PAC finished January with $24 million in the bank, more cash than the campaigns and super PACs of Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich combined, whether Romney can sustain his spending-to-fundraising ratio after the next few contests is an open question.

GOP insiders worry that if Romney and his allies are forced to continue to outspend his competitors by mega-margins without winning over new donors, he could run the risk of tapping out core donors before Republicans even get to the big general election showdown with Obama, whose campaign has deeper pockets than any prospective GOP rival.

Don't feel too bad for Truman. His wife's family farm was sold in the late 1960's for a lot of money to a developer that built one of the largest malls in Kansas City, Bannister Mall (but has sat empty for the last three years;maybe, they should turn it back into a farm).

<< including a pornographic site called Justforboys, where Ravi discovered a post from Clementi. >>

And just what was he doing looking at a gay pornographic site? That is the last thing I would want to look at.

But really ... up to 10 years in jail because he spied on his roommate? He didn't broadcast it over the internet or anything. He even apologised.

And people wonder why the prisons in the US are so full of people. Is Ravi a danger to society who has to be locked up?

The guy is innocent.
