The one big plus from Trump's presidency is that a non politician can be President. Other than Washington and Eisenhower, I can't think of another President who was at least a Governor or part of Congress prior to becoming President. That's a good thing. To cast a wider net. There are plenty of smart, honest people who are qualified out there.

However, the negatives of this President far, far outweigh the positives. Its obvious. There are certain time honored traditions and such that were considered inviolate.  Those are now gone and the standards one has to meet are now lowered so far it may threaten the country in the future. When you make it easier to exert power and remove traditional standards that protected the office, and its your man in the office its all well and good until a person comes in you don't approve of and does the same exact thing citing your guy as the precedent.

Since Nixon, we have had a tradition of showing your taxes. People forget that Nixon was also accused of tax evasion and the GOP got it removed from the articles of impeachment because they contended (and I agree actually) that he violated taxes as Nixon the private citizen which is a different entity than Nixon the President. Basically, impeachment is the President using his office for some illegal manner. Burr did not use the vice presidency to shoot Hamilton. That was a personal manner and the Congress ignored New Jersey's request for extradition. The Republicans successfully argued that Nixon did not use his office to evade taxes. That was a private matter. As an aside, I also contend that Clinton's impeachment fell under the same argument. He lied under oath in a civil lawsuit. He was representing himself the private citizen not the office when he was deposed under oath.

Anyway, its a sign of decline of empires when we get to this point. The quality of the Roman emperors decreased towards its end. Traditions were eroded. Who could be Caesar was eroded. I've written about this before how America of today is eerily similar to the last stages of previous empires (currency debased, constant wars, (

Maybe the biggest tradition is the attack on the media. If CNN, MSNBC or the like is 'fake news' then what is 'real news'? I've asked that question to those who call the former 'fake news'. Then it becomes problematic. Fox News is 'real news'? Breitbart is real news? The same site when it was run by Steve Bannon, the person who at one time had the ear of the President, had (maybe its still there I haven't checked) a column in Brietbart titled 'Black Crime' focusing solely on crime done by Blacks. That is real news? We may not like the 4th estate but for the leader to openly war and attempt to minimize its value is possibly the most dangerous.

Ultimately, the current state of affairs is a reflection of a certain percent of the country. The media avoids it. Its a sentiment that was always there and have found in Trump, a person they can feel free to openly discuss their view of a myriad of things: religion. race. immigration. culture. etc.

There are some serious economic issues we are not addressing and to some extent socio-cultural issues but largely economic based. Corporate and special interest influence on both sides take precedence over what is good for the nation. Their wants are rarely good for America's future.

No arguments from me, you are streets ahead of me on the economics front. And you as usual, have put forward a reasoned analysis.

I am, a keen observer of behaviour, when I see a bunch of chickens fleeing the coop, I don't need to know any predator~prey dynamics to know there's a fox in the coop. Such is my economic knowledge.

Xi is indeed  a big, player these days, I'm thinking of getting a Winnie the Pooh T shirt for use when I'm socialising with my Chinese friends...

Trump doesn't need to be impeached to leave office, he could spit the dummy, fall off the sanity table, or any one of a number of avenues.

Alex Jones Offers $1 Million Dollars to Anyone Who Can Prove He Encouraged Violence Against the Media

Lie circulated for a week with no retraction

Alex Jones is offering $1 million dollars for anyone who can prove that he encouraged people to use “battle rifles” against the media, a lie that has been circulating for a full week with no retraction.

Both the New York Times and Media Matters reported that Jones had called on people to get their battle rifles ready for use against the media. The Infowars host was also suspended for 7 days on Twitter over the controversy.

Both articles deliberately omitted or avoided discussion of Jones clearly outlining that he was talking “politically and economically and judiciously and legally” moving “against these people”. Both Media Matters and the New York Times failed to explain that this was the context of the rant.

Authorities: Iowa student killed by Mexican in US illegally

MONTEZUMA, Iowa (AP) — A man from Mexico living in the U.S. illegally has confessed to kidnapping college student Mollie Tibbetts while she was running in her small Iowa hometown, killing her and dumping her body in a cornfield, authorities said Tuesday.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tibbetts, whose July 18 disappearance set off a massive search involving state and federal authorities.

Rivera led investigators early Tuesday to a body believed to be Tibbetts in a cornfield about 12 miles (19 kilometers) southeast of Brooklyn, Iowa, where Tibbetts was last seen running, Division of Criminal Investigation special agent Rick Rahn said.

"I can't speak about the motive. I can just tell you that it seemed that he followed her, seemed to be drawn to her on that particular day, for whatever reason he chose to abduct her," Rahn told reporters at a news conference outside the sheriff's office in Montezuma, where Rivera was being jailed...

So Cavanami, someone who has committed a terrible crime has been caught and will face the full strength of the Law.

Why are you so interested? Could it be because the perp is not white? Could it be because you think white people don't commit crime?

Theodore "Ted" Bundy (November 24, 1946 to January 24, 1989) was a 1970s serial murderer, rapist and necrophiliac. He was executed in Florida's electric chair in 1989. His case has since inspired many novels and films about serial killers.

Ted Bundy admitted to 36 killings of young women across several states in the 1970s, but experts believe that the final tally may be closer to 100 or more. The exact number of women Bundy killed will never been known.

On January 24, 1989, Ted Bundy was put to death around 7 a.m. at the Florida State Prison in an electric chair sometimes known as "Old Sparky." Outside the prison, crowds cheered and even set off fireworks after Bundy's execution.

Immigration and crime.

The irony of America is that the country with the exception of the natives is a country built on voluntary and involuntary (slaves, early indentured Brits) immigration. No one is exempt. MS 13, the vicious Salvadorean gang has been made the face of immigration by the Republicans. I defy 99% of Americans outside of metro Washington DC and Los Angeles who can honestly say they heard the term  MS 13 and explain what it is before 2015 or 2016. I had a Salvadorean girlfriend in LA in the '90s and heard of them then actually.

However, as vicious as MS13 is, there are other immigrant groups that are far, far bigger and more extensive .For example the Russian mafia has pretty much replaced the traditional Italian mafia in many places. The Russian mafia as well as other organized criminal groups of the former Soviet republics (Serbs, Ukrainians, etc) have had an extensive crime syndicate not only in America but in Europe since the fall of communism. The Russian mafia is huge in America. Especially in NYC but they stretch the length and breadth of America and are involved in some nasty things like human trafficking, forced sex workers, kidnapping as well as traditional mafia businesses such as gambling, loan sharking, extortion. Some are legal and many are illegal. But I've never, ever, ever heard anyone talk about limiting immigration from Russia and other Eastern European countries.

If MS 13 is the standard we are using to halt or severely limit immigration (and I am not for uncontrolled or illegal immigration either) then in hindsight we should haven't had let in as many Irish, Italians,Jews, Germans and others during the 1800s and early 1900s when those and other immigrants formed criminal gangs that were far, far bigger than MS 13 today. The movie 'Gangs of New York' was just the tip of the iceberg as to how much control immigrant gangs held over parts of most major cities in the north. Months ago I posted some photos of immigrants coming off the ships at Ellis Island and even today they looked a bit scary if not funny. At the time, they looked like Martians invading from outer space to New Yorkers. Different languages, foods, smells, religions and carrying new diseases they were not immuned to. In far, far bigger numbers. Whole areas of major cities where English was not spoken at all, by people as well as signs. A far, far bigger issue then than now but we are still here. We weren't a de facto Papal state as once said with certainty in every major newspaper. We weren't bred out of existence by those olive skinned Sicilians, Greeks and other Mediterranean people as was once said as a surety in major newspapers and politicians such as those in the Know Nothing party.

The immigration debate are the same arguments that were made 150 years ago. The newer people do not look or speak like us. It's as simple as that. The irony is that the descendants of those that were once looked at as a 'dirty immigrant' , and are a few generations removed are now the same doing it to newer immigrants. The Trump administration in particular has been co-opted by the alt right. Stephen Miller is the one who is behind the new policy which if you strip it away is really about getting solely white immigration. The demographics are changing in America (as it has been continually doing for well over 240 years) and just like in the past, the effort is being made to keep it as it was. Miller has a long history of spewing very bigoted ideas of immigration. The irony is he is the descendant of Jews whose members were in the death camps.

It's a natural human feeling. I am not saying its right but I understand it. It's a normal reaction. However, we are a nation that has promoted ourselves better than base emotions. A statue of liberty we brag about stating that. Just my opinion but I think Trump has been totally co-opted by alt right ideology. He didn't have far to travel mentally to get there as he already harbored bigoted feelings anyway if we look at his history (sued by the government for housing discrimination in the early '70s, worked to frame the Central Park 5, five black kids who were innocent of rape but even after completely exonerated refused to acknowledge it).

Even my most liberal minded friends aren't for open borders and anyone can walk over. It's something that progressives are tagged with on right win media but its nothing I've heard and I know some very, very liberal minded people...lol. The thinking is once you are here, established yourself, so be it. I can certainly see the argument oppose to that way of thinking. I would be more sympathetic if it included all illegal immigrants but the truth is it doesn't. A long time ago I posted some stats about the numbers of illegal Irish in NYC and Boston, ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 in total that live openly and no ICE officials going after them. Maybe they are doing it now. A quick google while writing indicates that deportations have gone up across the board but latino and Haitian deportations are the lions share. https://www.npr.org/2018/01/22/578930256/undocumented-irish-unexpectedly-caught-in-trumps-immigration-dragnet For years, many of these Irish were involved in the running of  guns and monies back to Northern Ireland and the NRA. The British government for a long time has made it an issue diplomatically with each change of Ambassadors and each new President to no avail. America has glorified their struggle  in movies and in the sentiment of the average American while stating we have a 'special relationship' to the Brits. That's a bit strange when you think about it. However, the FBI has never made it a priority. But we have never heard a peep from anti immigration advocates.

Immigration is seen as a reaction to the low birthrates among whites if you really want to get to the heart of it and have a frank and open discussion about the subject. If "we" can't have enough babies to remain dominant lets limit others who can. The sad fact is even if you ended immigration tomorrow, demographic trends are demographic trends. The opiate epidemic is quickening an already declining population. Throw in the economy which is making it almost impossible for millennials to buy a home and start a proper family and we can see why it's declining.

I would love to see a comprehensive immigration policy. But it has to be based on fairness and not politicized as it is today. I have no problem with a secure southern border. None at all. Trump's "build the wall" sentiment is based on bigotry. It's hard to agree on building a wall in the manner and cost he wants when its done from that frame of mind. Immigration is more than a wall and when Africa is deemed a continent of 'shit hole countries' its hard to support. Especially when Nigerians are the most educated immigrants we have. https://www.chron.com/news/article/Data-show-Nigerians-the-most-educated-in-the-U-S-1600808.php  It's damn hard to get a visa to America from Africa. Harder perhaps than a guy trying to get a katoey from Thailand into the country..haha..and I'm half joking. NOT that I've tried mind you. :)

As a sidenote this 'chain migration' argument is a misnomer. Its a family unification policy, uniting siblings, parents or kids, we have had for a couple centuries now but all of a sudden it's a bad policy? The hypocrisy is Trump's in laws came in under the same policy!!

If you can't get over the borders, America cherry picks the immigrants we let in. It's very, very difficult to get an immigrant visa to come here. Very difficult. The paperwork and background is extensive. Any American on this site who has married a Thai or any other foreign woman and tried to get her to America will attest to that. And that's by marriage to a citizen. Try getting in legally without benefit of any citizen sponsorship?

Overall, the historical fact is immigration has never been a bad thing for America over time. History has proven that. America has had a net positive from immigration, legal and illegal. The subject and issue should be one approached without prejudice and with fairness.
