Remember this when you vote...

The Way Forward Act is not a bill to give relief to illegals. It is a bill to stop all deportations, force the US to pay to bring back all that were deported, to provide more protection to illegals then are afforded to our citizens. This is a bill to destroy this nation as we know it, coming from a Democrat near you!

This is a running theme conservatives use. Today's conservatives are co-opting LIBERAL and REGIONAL politicians at the time. Today's Republicans KNOWINGLY conflate Republican with conservatism. These acts were extremely LIBERAL acts at the time. The Republican party today was NOT the same Republican party 150 years ago. The Republicans in the slave states and midwest OPPOSED ending slavery. It was NORTHERN liberal Republicans and Democrats that ended slavery. Liberals ended slavery. Whites in the south changed from Republican to Democrat after the Civil War Because  Republicans in the north ended slavery. The whites in the south that voted for it were bribed (overtly or with federal jobs, etc.), threatened, any means necessary to vote for it.

The 15th Amendment passing was along REGIONAL lines not party. A few people abstained like Sumner, a northerner because it didn't go far enough like poll tax.

The term Dixie-crats, southern and midwest white Democrats came about after the Civil War as a result. They were very conservative on racial and social issues. The current southern and midwest Republicans changed from Democrat to Republican because Democrats and Republicans in the northern states as well as the far west voted to end legal segregation and enacted voting rights through the 70s culminating with Reagan changing the southern whites permanently to Republican. The current Republicans fathers in the south and midwest were Dems and use the party of their fathers to lie about the truth.

These memes liberal vs conservative meme as well as region vs regioni. Not party vs party memes. It's a lie to suggest otherwise.

Southern, midwest whites voted against ending slavery, right to vote, civil rights NO MATTER THE PARTY. Let's stop obfuscating the truth became most Americans don't know their history. Its dishonest.

Anti immigration furor in America has ALWAYS been ethnic based. 150 years ago it was to keep out non WASPs. The Irish, Siclians, Jews, Slavs, Armenians, Greeks. The 1924 Immigration act pretty much shut down legal immigration to America. What was happening at that time? Well, the KKK was at his greatest power, with some 3 million Americans as members (including Trump's grandfather). The Italian and Sicilian (and I separate the 2 because the Sicilians specifically looked different, darker) immigration to America came at the turn of the century 1900s to 1920, as well as large influx of eastern European Jews that scared a lot of Americans. Many Russians, Poles came as well. The country had a huge anti Catholic bigotry. Huge. Also, the eastern Europeans were either orthodox Jews or Greek/Russian Orthodox Christians. Anyone from the Mediterranean countries,  were not accepted.

I could get into the banning of Chinese women to come to America while the men were allowed to come to work on the rail in the 1800s but I'll just mention it in passing.

It wasn't until 1965 on the back of the general liberal feelings after the Civil Rights era that immigration opened up again with the 1965 immigration act. Today, its about non whites again. Latinos are the face of immigration. Since the 80s about 50,000 illegal Irish lived openly in NYC and Boston. Since the fall of the USSR thousands of Russians, Ukrainians and other eastern Europeans arrived illegally by plane on tourist visas or education visas and lived openly in the Brighton Beach area of Brooklyn. The area was traditionally a Russian Jewish neighborhood so the former USSR illegal immigrants felt at home there because Russian and Yiddish was spoken. In fact so many Ukrainians came a section of the area was called Little Odessa. The illegal Irish and eastern Europeans lived openly, even though thousands were illegal. 100 years ago they would have been targeted but Jews and eastern Europeans are considered white now. Back then they were white with an asterisk.

The cycle in America is once "my group" is assimilated and accepted as Americans, we join the majority mindset and ban anyone else new. Its been like that since the founding of the country.

Ben Franklin warned of letting too many Germans in. Philadelphia and parts of Pennsylvania at the time had a fairly large German population. Jews stared being accepted as 'Americans/White ' after WW2 with sympathy from the holocaust and become fully accepted according to some modern historians  after the 1967 war with US foreign policy to support Israel.

America's view on who is American has always been fluid and changing and evolving. And its regional. Anyone can be American for the most part in LA and NYC because these cities are very diverse. If you are lost in LA for example, you would walk up to a Filipino, Persian, Korean, Latino and ask for directions because you assume they are a Los Angeleno. Maybe not so in Birmingham, Alabama or Gulfport, Mississippi.

I'm not singling out America as particularly unique or bad. Historically, any nation made up of different ethnic groups had issues and often violent. The Balkans, China, Russia, Spain, the UK, America is no different. It doesn't make it right, but it puts it all in its proper context with regards to similar nations.

Yes, I'm a history nut. haha...one of my pet projects for retirement is to get a PhD in history. I have a thesis idea but its controversial. I will likely pursue it in a foreign country..haha.

EVERY single social advancement that we see as advancing America was by the progressives/liberals at the time. It was the liberals of the day that ended slavery, that gave women the right to vote in 1919, that ended Jim Crow/Segregation, that has provided social security and medicare, both of them saves millions of lives over the years, that gave Civil Rights, the women's movement of the 1970s, gay rights of the 2000s.

However, I also credit conservatives for stopping America from going to far left to the point of literally destroying the framework of the country. Conservatives stopped the huge and growing movement towards communism in the aftermath of the communist revolution of Russia after WW2. There was a tangible threat to American democracy in the 1920s. The "Red Scare".

Conservatism, fought against the divorce laws being stacked against the husband. While I fully support gays rights to marry and live their own lives as they like, I do agree with conservatives there is a cultural push to normalize transgenders to the youth. I believe there is an agenda. Children should be free to develop their sexual identity free from undue influence. More and more school districts are changing the curriculum of K-6 to include books with all kinds of LBGTQ promotions. This not only runs counter to parents ability to raise their kids, its unnecessary. Gays are normalized on tv and the media. The millennials today who are pro gay rights did not have to be made into allies via forced education. You instill ids with a sense of fairness and jusice and support for individual rights be it sexual identity, race, religion, will come as a result.

The current 'classic' conservative movement to extricate ourselves from foreign wars is also a positive. To be fair, this is shared by the far left as well.

However, we can not excuse and accept immoral, unethical and illegal acts as a 'means justifies the end' as we presently have. In the impeachment 'precedence' was often used. The precedence set by Trump will literally destroy the country as we know it if its used by future politicians. The very actions of Trump can be used by the so called 'deep state' or fringe left to justify their actions. There literally are no more 'rules' with this current administration.

I really do think we will see the left version of Trump one day and it won't be pretty and their support will use Trump as cover for their actions.

Democrats routinely express outrage over claims of collusion with a foreign power to undermine our democracy. So where is the outrage over revelations that former secretary of state John Kerry held not one but two secret meetings with Iran’s foreign minister to strategize over how to undermine President Trump’s plans to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal?

Did you know that Kerry is not POTUS?

Another misleading meme. When asked why Republicans require ADDITIONAL certification of a voter, the reason is invariably to combat "voter fraud". Mainly someone voting illegally using either a fake ID or someone else's ID.

The fact of the matter is studies have shown its rare.

https://www.brennancenter.org/issues/ensure-every-american-can-vote/vote-suppression/myth-voter-fraud?ms=gad_voting news_291644284294_1535184134_58050428789&gclid=CjwKCAiA1fnxBRBBEiwAVUouUv8iwGdnxCK4HrTN7iw6vJNpQwxGU1A6wE1uhwOdbHKk-9GykkG2uRoCvPUQAvD_BwE

I have read on a national bases you are more likely to be struck by lightening. Furthermore, it costs the taxpayers thousands of dollars, the amount vary by state, to institute across the state. We do one stat that is consistent about voter ID laws. They always result in less people being able to vote from 3 Democrat niches: 1. elderly 2. Blacks 3. Latinos

So, why put an extra step in for voting where there is statistically no evidence it's needed? See the above 3 groups affected by it. Alabama initiated voter ID and then closed 75% of the department of motor vehicles offices in predominantly black counties until forced to re-open them from lawsuits.

The Republican mantra of widespread voter fraud is false. Trump has made some crazy, batshit claims from his watching of Alex Jones that his own administration has debunked. Let's stop repeating false and misleading claims.

So,l it turns out the facts about Kerry isn't what Trump supporters claim. Why isn't the DOJ or FBI involved? Because there is no 'there' there. Kerry negotiated the deal in part, urged the Iranians to honor it and stopped communicating once Trump backed out of the deal. End of story. No laws broken and he was doing an honorable thing.

The greatest black Patriot of them all😋 Interesting story, when he was in college he played for Southern Cal (USC). They played a highly ranked University of Alabama football team at a time Alabama did not allow black football players. Cunningham ran all over the 'Bama defense and legendary 'Bama coach Bear Bryant said Cunningham did more for integration in Alabama than MLK Jr. Alabama started recruiting black players after that game.

https://www.patriotshalloffame.com/hall_of_famer/sam-cunningham/

Sam Cunningham played nine seasons for the Patriots, appearing in 107 games from 1973-1979 and 1981-1982. He is the Patriots all-time leading rusher with 5,453 yards and his 43 rushing touchdowns rank second in team history. He played a significant role in helping the Patriots set the NFL record for most rushing yards in a season with 3,165 yards in 1978. Cunningham joined the Patriots as a 1973 first round draft pick after an All American career at USC. He was dubbed Sam “Bam” Cunningham while in college for his ability to dive over piles into the end zone. He is a member of the Patriots 50th Anniversary Team and 1970s All-Decade Team. He was enshrined to the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2010. He lives in California.

Once again CS, you don't know the actual history thus you try to baffle people with your babbling...

From your holy grail, snopes...

The House of Representatives passed the 15th Amendment on February 25, 1869, by a vote of 144 to 44

The Senate passed the 15th Amendment on February 26, 1869, by a vote of 39 to 13.

The text of the 15th Amendment can be found in the United States Statutes at Large, volume 16, page 346 (15 Stat. 346).
Secretary of State Hamilton Fish issued a proclamation certifying the ratification of the 15th Amendment by the states on March 30, 1870.

A detailed tally of Senate Vote #586 in January 1869 indicated support by Republicans with 33 “yea” votes, and zero for Democrats:

15 amendment votes

While the meme was close to accurate in providing tallies by party for votes on the 15th amendment, it was less so with Cummings’ remarks. Putting aside the fact it did not mention any changes in party dynamics between the 1940s and 1970s [PDF], it also misconstrued Cummings’ statements to suggest that he incorrectly attributed the 15th amendment specifically to Democrats and not Republicans.
