Okay, just did some quick "'googling", its something a few council members propose but my firm view is its purely rhetoric. Its not going to happen. They also have proposed an alternative, which, if enacted, may or may not work.

https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/city-council-announces-intention-to-disband-minneapolis-police-department

Minneapolis is a major city, on a small scale, in very small communities, you can't tell if they have police because its so peaceful. The suburban town I went to HS in was like that. You didn't see the police. It was an upper middle class community and I saw the local police the most at football games and basketball high school games for crowd control, etc and for the annual town parade.

In a large major city, my view is we have stop using the police as a de facto tax department. The police is not there only to 'serve an protect' and in truth they are protecting businesses, which has never changed. The police has also been charged with generating revenue by writing tickets and as well as to fulfill the state's contractual obligation to fill private prisons. I've posted 2 links that address both.

The police will prey on the most vulnerable area of the city to fulfill this because its easier to do so. The police in Tallahassee, Florida will go to the Perkins and Falls Chase areas (those are the poorest areas of the city) to look for drug arrest, which will be pot instead of the target rich frat row at Florida State University where they openly smoke pot and tons of underage drinking. I know this personally from going to parties there while I was in college and our track team visited the city.

We may not agree on disbanding the police but its Minneapolis' own fault for what seems a crazy idea to even be contemplated. The city has never convicted a police officer for any shooting until Somali American officer Noor and his case was far less convincing than other shootings. The shooting of Castile, who had his girlfriend and her daughter in the car and he advised the cop he had a registered firearm and was shot multiple times for going for his permit. Not sure how that is less convincing than Noor, who shot an Aussie woman in the dark in an alley, after she banged on the car while he and his partner was answering a possible robbery.

So, for me, we must be angry at city government and police for the buildup to this even being considered.

My guess is this will be the last time we see a conservative Republcan win an election. The last hurrah. The country has moved left and these last few years as pushed a lot more Americans left.

Jump and yell that socialism is bad all you want. Americans under 30 have openly embraced, European style "democratic socialism" and if that remains their mindset, it will be what America will look like in 10 to 20 years. When today's 30 year olds are 50 and the baby boomer generation are all but dead and gone, the generation after the millennials will embrace it as well and the vast majority of the country will be democratic socialists, majority for tougher gun control, medicare for all, tuition free college, a huge reduction of the military industrial complex.

I guarantee you, if you live long enough, you won't recognize the America that will be. Some will applaud and some will see it as the end but its going to happen. Demographically we will look very, very different. If the elections go the way they are currently trending, the senate and house of representatives will be Democrat for at least 2 years till the off year elections and I suspect a vast reversal of Trump administration actions and there will be nothing Republicans can do about it.

What isnt being discussed is that red states are going purple or have turned blue. There are no blue states have turned red or even purple. Once Texas goes, and its very possible now and likely if population changes in the state maintain, its over for Republicans as a national party. NY, California and Texas goes blue, that's it. Its done.

My guess is North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia will go blue, not strongly blue but strong enough where Dems will win with a decent turnout. Over 50 native Virginians, Georgians and North Carolinians are dying off fast. Out of state entrants from blue states and the young people there are far more liberal than their fathers or grandfathers. In my day as well as I have to guess all Americans on this forum over a certain age, rock was the music of white middle class. It was in my HS. Today its hip hop, alternative music and R&B as well as Euro style electronica.

If you are distraught at the direction of the immediate and long term future of the country, its our own fault as a collective. Is there a chance that it could reverse? Yes. We have one major example of a reversal. The hippie generation of the late 60s and early 70s. Far more liberal than today in some respects in some areas. I was taught in grade school by 2 former hippies (I found out later). Those free love hippy types in 1969 were teachers, accountants, wall street bond traders, insurance adjusters, etc, by 1979.

This time I don't see that happening. The country had a much bigger and stronger conservative movement at that time. Much different demographically as well. America was about 80 percent white in 1970, depending on how latinos, peoples of the mediterranean are classified, its barely 60% today.

The fact is we have saddled young people with problems previous generations didn't do to ours. Debt wasn't an issue for America decades ago. It was small, serviceable and could be reduced easily. The debt we have left the youngest generation can not be paid off...ever. Unless they go draconian and cut out 80% of the military, raise taxes, cut out certain previously seen sacrosanct programs.

Word of wise to those over 50. You are not going to win a generational war with Millennials and Gen Z. They will eventually win obviously. Concede? Well, if you believe in your stance, you will have no chance to but compromise and come up with a middle ground or risk losing things as they gain power over the purse strings of the government.

And shall find out first thing that they have to deal with HUGE debts that generation BuBi and friends have created. Plus HUGE commitments to pension payments that for example in Germany are being funded by the people who are working.

Gentlemen,

with increasing pleasure I note that more and more previously scared Republicans let the world know what they think about Donald Trump. Polls indicate Trump is loosing voters although it is early days to jump with joy. But should the latter steady it might make more and more Republican dicksuckers jump ship to save their asses. I bet in short time some of they shall give an oath that fighting racism has always been all their main target. And if not openly then at least deep within their heart and soul, honestly.
