FBI warns ransomware assault threatens US health care system

Federal agencies warned that cybercriminals could unleash a wave of data-scrambling extortion attempts against the U.S. health care system, an effort that, if successful, could paralyze hospital information systems just as nationwide cases of COVID-19 are spiking.

In a joint alert Wednesday, the FBI and two federal agencies said they had credible information of “an increased and imminent cybercrime threat” to U.S. hospitals and health care providers. The alert said malicious groups are targeting the sector with attacks aiming for “data theft and disruption of healthcare services."...

Turkish Bank Case Showed Erdogan’s Influence With Trump

New details of the Justice Department’s handling of the accusations against Halkbank reveal how Turkey’s leader pressured the president, prompting concern from top White House aides.

The top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, Mr. Berman had traveled to Washington in June 2019 to discuss a particularly delicate case with Attorney General William P. Barr and some of his top aides: a criminal investigation into Halkbank, a state-owned Turkish bank suspected of violating U.S. sanctions law by funneling billions of dollars of gold and cash to Iran.

For months, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey had been pressing President Trump to quash the investigation, which threatened not only the bank but potentially members of Mr. Erdogan’s family and political party. When Mr. Berman sat down with Mr. Barr, he was stunned to be presented with a settlement proposal that would give Mr. Erdogan a key concession.

Mr. Barr pressed Mr. Berman to allow the bank to avoid an indictment by paying a fine and acknowledging some wrongdoing. In addition, the Justice Department would agree to end investigations and criminal cases involving Turkish and bank officials who were allied with Mr. Erdogan and suspected of participating in the sanctions-busting scheme....

Gentlemen, may I respectfully draw the general attention from the showdown Sleepy Joe versus Donald-the-Liar towards the following:

What will happen if Trump wins but looses the Senate while Congress stays democratic? As much a possibility as Biden wins and further wins the Senate. Donald will be yelling death and murder in the first  case while Biden could theoretically turn the country upside down should scenario 2 happen.

And then we have all the relatively young judges whom the Donald has installed everywhere. Would the American people quietly accept loads of biased judgements of the ultra-right type.

We don´t know yet.

An economist for Bank of America said that scenario would be the worst because it would be gridlock. He said any scenario where the Congress and the White House are different parties is seen by the markets as negative. So they want one party rule, either way because they can adjust trading easier because the government is predictable policy wise.
