Why does nobody stand up and at least explain moron Trump that TARRIFFS  ARE PAID BY HIS OWN CITIZENS AND NOT BEI VOLKSWAGEN OR THE CHINESE ?????? And therefore they do not make America rich again but make the people poorer because access to cheap imports is cut.

There are two views a lot of the so called experts (and people who I read/listen to) say about the economy. Most are saying a 2008 type of crash where we wake up one day and global stock markets are falling past 20% of their value. The other is that it won't be a huge crash that culminates things but a long slow deflationary period. Similar to the '70s stagnation days. Where its slow steady decline that just seems to go on for months. Lay offs, no jobs, no growth. Japan has been going through this since the early 90s.

The latter is worse because a crash wakens people up right away. You can get the masses to swallow the hard truth and do what is necessary to correct it. The slow steady decline takes a while for the masses to lose confidence.

We aren't in a crash primarily because in an official crash the public knows it. You can't have a crash in an economy with people thinking it isn't. Consumer confidence, or the complete loss of it, is one of the byproducts of a crash. There was no doubt to the public 2008 was a crash. However in the '70s there was malaise and some belief still for a while for parts of society, even working and middle class.

Yo, Coss. Did you say unequal?  :xmassmile

Report: Thailand most unequal country in 2018

Thailand has overtaken Russia and India as the most unequal country in the latest survey by a Swiss bank.

Banyong Pongpanich, chairman of Phatra Securities, posted on Facebook on Wednesday the findings of the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Databook 2018 conducted on 40 countries.

He expressed concern about the trend. Two years ago, Thailand ranked third in the report, after Russia and India.

“In 2016, the 1% richest Thais (500,000 people) owned 58.0% of the country’s wealth. In 2018, they controlled 66.9%, overtaking their peers in Russia whose wealth share fell from 78% to 57.1%,” he wrote.

And how for some old news ...

The Ex-Slaves Who Fought with the British

While the patriots battled for freedom from Great Britain, upwards of 20,000 runaway slaves declared their own personal independence and fought on the side of the British.

...

According to Maya Jasanoff in her book “Liberty’s Exiles: American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World,” approximately 20,000 black slaves joined the British during the American Revolution. In contrast, historians estimate that only about 5,000 black men served in the Continental Army.

As the American Revolution came to close with the British defeat at Yorktown in 1781, white Loyalists and thousands of their slaves evacuated Savannah and Charleston and resettled in Florida and on plantations in the Bahamas, Jamaica and other British territories throughout the Caribbean. The subsequent peace negotiations called for all slaves who escaped behind British lines before November 30, 1782, to be freed with restitution given to their owners. In order to determine which African-Americans were eligible for freedom and which weren’t, the British verified the names, ages and dates of escape for every runaway slave in their custody and recorded the information in what was called the “Book of Negroes.”

With their certificates of freedom in hand, 3,000 black men, women and children joined the Loyalist exodus from New York to Nova Scotia in 1783. There the Black Loyalists found freedom, but little else. After years of economic hardship and denial of the land and provisions they had been promised, nearly half of the Black Loyalists abandoned the Canadian province. Approximately 400 sailed to London, while in 1792 more than 1,200 brought their stories full circle and returned to Africa in a new settlement in Sierra Leone. Among the newly relocated was the former slave of the newly elected president of the United States—Harry Washington—who returned to the land of his birth.

Helping the British was a no brainer for slaves I would imagine. Escaped slaves also helped and fought for the British in the War of 1812. As a sidenote, we lost that war. Our history books don't say it but in actuality we lost the war and the peace terms were dictated by the British. The British could never hold America after victory. Too big and massive. However, they could control the sea lanes and massively impact trade. In 1809 the British started the process of ending slavery in their colonies so it was a no brainer.

However,  it must be said the British reneged on promises for some slaves and re-enslaved some of them by selling them. That is rarely discussed as well. Not an official policy but it happened.

We also have to remember, there was a huge fear of revolts at this time because Haiti had the first (and only) successful slave revolt in 1804 that ended with slaves taking over an entire country.

That revolt was fresh in everyone's mind at the time.

Peter Schiff voted for Trump. He is a pure capitalist, saw the underlying economic issues that made the economy under Obama fragile and saw that Hillary was going to continue the propping up with the QE (quantitative easing).

He is a multi millionaire trader, fund manager. This post is not to put down Trump per se, but to say that the economy has gotten worse. To be fair, they would have gotten worse with Clinton as well. Maybe not at the pace to which it would have gotten worse but worse none the less. The point is, the economy is rotten in its core and those that think Trump is good for the economy are going to be sorely mistaken if they haven't planned for the inevitable crisis.
