I've went from a conservative, socially moderate-ish Libertarian to a practically out and out Liberal. I do have some Libertarian ideals still.

Steve, Steve, Steve...you've lost the plot, my friend. I know that 90% of the Libtards on the board have left or slithered off unable to defend the initiatives of the Socialist Democrat members of Congress and Obama. But pleeeeeeeze don't feel obligated to fill the void they've left here.

Why?

I saw a Republican on TV saying the way out of this mess is to cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy. I used to buy that. I used to buy the 'they create the jobs' thing. Haven't thought that in a while.

So, if corporations and "wealthy" do not create jobs, what/who does?

The corporations that were failing, the banks, airlines, etc. weren't failing from onerous regs and high taxes. Yes, there are some bad regulations, especially in certain industries. No, they failed because they f*ked up. Pure and simple.

I think you are over-simplifying the reasons some corporations have failed. I lay a great deal of blame on the U.S. Government signing off on various trade agreements. That is, the playing field was never even to begin with, especially with regard to Asian countries. It was like Division 1 football teams agreeing to play NAIA football teams and letting the NAIA teams start play from the 20 yard line. It's given U.S. competitors a "short field" for years. To say that "onerous regs" are not to blame is both true and untrue. For instance, regs relating to environmental issues may not be necessarily onerous in themselves; but, they become "onerous" when the competition is not required to also comply with those regs. Same, same with respect to wages, benefits, health/safety issues. The U.S. government f'd up big time.

.. A lot of these companies moved production overseas and jobs overseas. They made money and got greedy.

I disagree. They moved production overseas so that they could compete with the foreign competitors which enjoyed lower production costs. Corporations are business entities, the purpose of which is to "make money", no? As to greed, regretably, that and envy seem to be almost human nature; humans are the investors in corporations, as you know.

Normal economic cycles where you had to have a downturn after a climb. Econ 101. We all learned that economies are not linear. They go up and down while trending up. Every freshman can tell you that. However, they use those downturns to say they are over regulated out of profits. Ford and others making SUVs and thinking short term and then when gas prices go against them its some how the fault of too much regulations and high taxes. Pure and utter bullsh*t. Bankruptcy laws changed to make it harder for the common man to declare bankruptcies but corporations can do it willy nilly and get empathy when they have to but for you and I, a social stigma? WTF?

How does Paris Hilton create jobs? Check out her business investments/portfolio. She's worth tens of millions. I've read that she's a billionaire. She's gonna hire an extra publicist if we cut her taxes? Who knows? And how many publicists must she hire to not have to pay more taxes? Why should she pay more than anybody else to enjoy the same rights, freedoms and opportunities that every citizen has? And do you have any idea how much in taxes she already pays?

The reason for the hatred of Obama is because he's not their man. Simple as that.

Again, I disagree. Sure he wasn't my man. But it is his policies and failure to lead, his instigation of class warfare, his failure on so many fronts while being successful in leading this country to it's lowest credit worthiness in decades. Add to that his arrogance and failure to admit mistakes. If anybody actually believed that he was going to change how Washington does business, they were the biggest fools on the planet. Maybe you recall during the election campaigns that I called him a flim-flam man (ala Professor Harold Hill in "The Music Man") He has proven himself to be just that. He's in over his head, unless he has a willful desire to bring this country to its knees.

The reasons we were given on why he would not be a good president didn't come to fruition.

And the reasons we were given on why he would be a good president didn't come to fruition either.

NOTHING will get done because the parties aren't arguing ideology.

Steve, I fear you have lost the plot. The parties are DEFINITELY arguing ideology. The conservatives are arguing against irresponsible spending on the part of the government and the increasing size and authority of the federal government. The libtards are arguing for just the opposite. Both sides are equally dug-in. It's a Mexican Standoff and nobody's blinking

On the campaign trail:

Today: Michele Bachmann

Bachmann attends church service denouncing homosexuality

By NBC's Jamie Novogrod

WAUKEE, IA –- Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann yesterday attended a church here in Iowa, where the pastor called homosexuality "immoral" and "unnatural," and later showed a testimonial video from a man who claimed to have been gay before having a conversation with God.

Before the sermon at Point of Grace Church -- a non-denominational congregation near Des Moines -- Bachmann stood with her husband, Marcus Bachmann, before a crowd of about 100 people, clutching her personal copy of the Bible.

“This is a time that we need to be encouraged this week, not discouraged,†she said, referencing Friday night’s credit downgrade and Saturday’s news about the Navy SEALs killed in Afghanistan.

“Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,†Bachmann said, reading from the book of Philippians, “think well on these things.â€

The reading drew cheers. Pastor Jeff Mullen, standing next to Bachmann, took her Bible his hand. “There are some candidates who start running, and have this come-to-Jesus moment,†he said. "What I love about this Bible,†he said, “is how well it's used.â€

Mullen offered a prayer honoring democracy. “We have a nation where people can still rise up and speak their voice, and say, ‘This is what I believe.’â€

When Bachmann and her husband returned to their seats, Mullen began a half-hour presentation on his church's beliefs. Reading verses from the Bible to support his case, Mullen said, "We inherently know that homosexual behavior is immoral and unnatural."

“God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,†Mullen said, reading from the book of Romans.

Mullen’s sermon concluded with video testimonial from a man named Adam Hood, who claims to have been gay before experiencing a conversation with God. "I am so happy God has given me natural affection for a woman," Hood said in the video, adding that his wife is nine months pregnant.

"We need to have compassion for people that are bound by that sin," Hood added. "And it is a sin. Call a spade a spade."

The Bachmanns remained in the church for the duration of the service, and afterward posed for a picture with Pastor Mullen and his family.

In an interview with NBC News, Mullen called his sermon on homosexuality “a bedrock, just a Biblical truth we’ve taught over the years.â€

“It just so happens they were here today,†Mullen said of the Bachmanns. “And we were teaching on both marriage and homosexuality.â€

The Bachmann campaign released this statement on Mullen's sermon: "Michele was an invited guest, she always welcomes the opportunity to meet with parishioners.

"The Point of Grace Church service was the second church event Michele Bachmann attended on Sunday. Earlier, they visited the Des Moines First Church of the Nazarene, where the presidential candidate discussed the origins of her faith and political life.

Surprising how much Republicans hate homesexuals. Very similar as to how Natzis hate homosexuals.

Isn't odd that the word homosexual didn't become a word till the late 1880's. Does that mean Jesus lived about 130 years ago and the Bible is really a new 'creation'?

Read the book, "The Pink Nazis"...per the author(s) most of the top

Nazis were fudgepackers!

The "hate" thing was just a public coverup.

Yeah, Pastor, and then you try to force your beliefs on the entire country, nonbelievers, government, and our supposedly 'secular' laws. How democratic you are. Pastor Mullen is a Muppet. Three hundred years ago or so he would have been burning witches at the stake and stoning homosexuals to death. Still would if we would let them likely. I hate the fact these cunts have a bully pulpit to screech their mindless rot from, and it's all tax free.

Yup. I've read this as well.

Sort of like all the religious leaders condemning homosexuality, yet doing the same themselves: Catholic priests/pedos, bible thumpers like Jim Baker and the others that have been caught out, and the politicians who do the same. The most ardent homophobes are usually hiding something in their own closets and have issues they want to cover up. Smoke screen.
