This pretty much sums up my feelings on the mess in Florida.

Trayvon Martin shooting: New details emerge from Twitter account, witness testimony

<< "Oh how little we have learned," David Shane wrote on PolicyMic.com. The media has rushed to judgment yet again. "Now, it's quite possible that Zimmerman is guilty of everything his worst foes accuse him of. There is plenty about this case that troubles me. But that's exactly the point—I don't know. Neither does anyone else, and both the scope and tone of the media coverage ought to reflect that fact." >>

And the Daily Mail's take:

- The teen was suspended from school three times

- He was on suspension when he was shot in February, after officials caught him with a 'marijuana pipe' and a baggie with drug residue

- Trayvon was kicked out of school in October for graffiti after he was allegedly caught with a 'burglary tool' and a bag full of women's jewelry

- Officials also suspended him once for skipping school and tardiness

- Tearful parents say their son is now the victim of a smear campaign

- New poll shows 73 percent of Americans think Zimmerman should be arrested

Pat Buchanan asks:

<< A fight ensued. According to two witnesses, Zimmerman was losing, flat on his back, screaming for help. It seems unlikely a 17-year-old football player like Martin, angry and in a fistfight, would be screaming for help.

Police say that when they got there, they found Martin dead and Zimmerman with a bloody nose, a cut on the back of his head and grass stains on the back of his shirt.

Did Zimmerman, on his back, losing the fight, fearing this black kid was a criminal who might beat him to death or grab his gun, fire in presumed self-defense? Did Martin, who had a right to be enraged with this character following and hassling him, start the fight?

Would Zimmerman, who carried a legal firearm, start a fistfight with an athletic black youth who was reportedly 6 inches taller?

The scenario above appears to be the one upon which Sanford police relied when they declined to arrest Zimmerman. That Trayvon’s body was taken to the morgue and identified as “John Doe†suggests that the police, too, concluded he was an intruder.

They were terribly wrong, as was Zimmerman. But to call this cold-blooded murder or an Emmett Till-type lynching appears, from the existing evidence, to be both demagogic and inflammatory.

Yet, there are questions that need answers.

Why, with a dead teenager, did the Sanford police not bring in Zimmerman and get his story on paper? Some journalists contend there are racial slurs on the tapes of Zimmerman talking to the cops. Others hear no such thing.

Zimmerman’s father calls the media portrayal of his son as a racist an injustice, and says his son has a Peruvian mother, is Spanish-speaking, grew up in a multiracial family and has many black friends.

And the clamor of the crowd – “Arrest him!†– raises a question.

Arrest him – for what?

If the Sanford police believe they have no case for murder or manslaughter or any felony, what do they charge him with, after they arrest him?

More critically, where is President Obama?

When Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot during a rampage by a crazed gunmen, Obama stepped in with a splendid address to cool the passions and call a halt to the false and fevered accusations of moral complicity in the monstrous crime of a lone killer.

Where is the Obama of Tucson now? >>

By the way, does Clarence Thomas ever participate with questions during these cases or write decisions either majority or minority (or is he as worthless as he seems to be)?

One of the worst justices for some time. He rarely asks questions and pretty much votes whatever Scalia does. Not sure if he's even ever voted against Scalia.

He's vehementally anti affirmative action and the sweet irony is that the elder Bush proposed him for the court for the sole reason he was Black. There was a story at the time that said when Bush was brought a list of candidates he told them to get rid of any of the names who were not black. He was the Black conservative replacement for Thurgood Marshall.

That wouldn't be so bad if he was learned or offered some intellect to the court. Its hard to see what he offers. I'm not so much against him ideologically just his usefulness.

As you guys said, I will wait to hear all the facts. There are facts that support both. The physical evidence, if true, of Zimmerman's clothing and injuries. That is countered by a phone call Martin made during the incident. Also, Zimmerman being told not to pursue Martin by the Neighborhood Watch leader but did anyway. We dont' know how confrontational Zimimerman was. If Martin was fighting him, did Zimmerman say or do something to anger him into a fight? If so, then Zimmerman created the scenario which led to his having to shoot the youth. Martin didn't arbitrarily go up to Zimmerman and start fighting. If I confront someone and I have a gun and that person starts attacking me physically to the point I fear for my life, am I exonerated from fault or guilt if I initiated the contact and in a confrontational manner? I don't know the legalities of it. Martin may be a hothead and reacted strongly to being confronted. He may have overreacted to questioning and it could be argued, at a minimum shares some of the guilt.

Its a tough call and we don't have all the facts. I have a sad feeling that if the facts go against Martin he will still be a cause celebre. It could play into the wider political debate. Sad if that happens.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/27/10889896-anti-same-sex-marriage-groups-racial-wedge-strategy-revealed

Anti-same-sex marriage group’s racial wedge strategy revealedthe Human Rights Campaign released internal memos from the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), the nation's largest and most visible anti-same sex-marriage group, calling for the use of a racial wedge strategy to fight campaigns for marriage equality.

“The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks -- two key Democratic constituencies,†one of the NOM memos says.

“The documents, marked “confidential,†were unsealed yesterday afternoon in Maine by court order, as part of that state’s ongoing ethics investigation into NOM’s campaign finances.

The memo spells out specific steps to enact, including:

Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots…â€

Here is an excerpt on NOM’s Hispanic strategy:

"The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values? We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity - a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation."

NOM also spells out its plans for the 2012 presidential election:

"From a political angle," the NOM document says, "this strategy will require electing a pro-marriage President in 2012." Strategies for defeating, ("sideswiping," as the document calls it) President Obama include "expose Obama as a social radical," and "raise such issues as pornography, protection of children, and the need to oppose all efforts to weaken religious liberty at the federal level."

I think I know where they got this strategy from. Same sex marriage got defeated in California largely because of Blacks voting agianst it one of the Propositions. Blacks registered to vote in historically high numbers. As some of you know, a lot of voter registrations involves the black churches. The way the proposition was worded most voted against it.

Don't get me wrong, Blacks don't like homosexuality typically and as a culture we are homophobic. However, unllike white fundamental churches, its not a cornerstone of Black churches. If I had to generalize black sentiment its, we, collectively don't agree with same sex marriage but believe people have the right to do what they want to do. There is also a generational thing as well. Older blacks are against it on all grounds and young blacks have a live and let live attitude towards it.

I agree. Already, some in Congress are shamelessly parlaying the youth's unfortunate demise into a political "dog and pony show". If you saw the televised "Congressional forum" relating to the incident and have read how some in Congress are calling for an arrest (without possibly knowing all of the facts), you know what I mean. Add to that, the filing of a friggin' copyright by Martin's parents associated with their son's name and likeness, and my head just shakes.

They love to use a smiling photo of an apparently good natured young man. They don't seem to like this more recent photo. He doesn't look like a bad kid here, but he doesn't look so angelic either. :dunno:

BTW Zimmerman's mother is from Peru. He is bilingual, English and Spanish.

And a few unkind souls have been so cruel as to point out that three black men murdered a white student at the University of Mississippi the other day. Not a peep out Obama about how his son would look like the victim ... or the killers. :hmmm:

It also turns out that Zimmerman is a registered Democrat and presumably voted for Obama. :dunno:

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-blog/school-expels-student-swearing-twitter-during-non-school-230832581.html

School expels student for swearing on Twitter during non-school hoursGarrett High School in Indiana expelled a high school senior for cursing over Twitter during off-school hours.

The tweet in question dropped the F-bomb a number of times, but was otherwise non-threatening. It was posted at 2:30 a.m. — a time when the student in question was most assuredly not at school. Still, despite the evidence, the school stands by its decision to expel the student.

How did the school discover that one of its students dared to tweet an offending word during the middle of the night? Simple: Garrett High School's computer system actively tracks the social media presence of its students. Because the student logged on to his account during school hours, the system was able to find and report the foul-mouthed tweet, leading to the expulsion.

"I don't think the school or anybody should be looking at [my account]. Because it's my own personal stuff and it's none of their business," said the student, who will be attending an alternative high school to finish out his school year and earn his degree.

Sad, very sad. America is probably the last bastion of civil liberties out there. Maybe there are countries with written laws that are as good or better than America. I've not heard of one. Not saying there isn't but I haven't. The only reason why I seem to have more freedom in some countries than in America is because they don't have the technological ability to invade my privacy as the U.S. does.

My big worry is we are now raising a generation of kids that are used to being monitored and will accept it lying down. They haven't experienced anything different. Sad. So sad. We have lost our freedom.
