U.S. ambassador to Libya killed in Benghazi attack

The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff were killed in a rocket attack on their car, a Libyan official said, as they were rushed from a consular building stormed by militants denouncing a U.S.-made film insulting the Prophet Mohammad.

Gunmen had attacked and burned the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi, a center of last year's uprising against Muammar Gaddafi, late on Tuesday evening, killing one U.S. consular official. The building was evacuated.

The Libyan official said the ambassador, Christopher Stevens, was being driven from the consulate building to a safer location when gunmen opened fire.

"The American ambassador and three staff members were killed when gunmen fired rockets at them," the official in Benghazi told Reuters.

Obama on track to have worst job record since World War II

Unemployment is good for you.

Nice source Flash: surprised.gif

Here a quote on Washington Times from Wikipedia:

In a 2008 essay published in Harper's Magazine, historian Thomas Frank linked the Times to the modern American conservative movement, saying:

There is even a daily newspaper—the Washington Times—published strictly for the movement’s benefit, a propaganda sheet whose distortions are so obvious and so alien that it puts one in mind of those official party organs one encounters when traveling in authoritarian countries.[57]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Washington_Times#Political_leanings

Why didn't you quote this part?

<<In 2002, Washington Post veteran Ben Bradlee said, "I see them get some local stories that I think the Post doesn’t have and should have had."

Dante Chinni wrote in the Columbia Journalism Review:

In addition to giving voice to stories that, as Pruden says, “others miss,†the Times plays an important role in Washington’s journalistic farm system. The paper has been a springboard for young reporters to jobs at The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, even the Post. Lorraine Woellert, who worked at the Times from 1992 to 1998, says her experience there allowed her to jump directly to her current job at Business Week. “I got a lot of opportunities very quickly. They appreciated and rewarded talent and, frankly, there was a lot of turnover.†>>

Weinstein Co. Beefs Up 'Master' Premiere Security Over Calls from Angry Scientologists

Based loosely on the life of church founder L. Ron Hubbard, the film has elicited a wave of protests from his adherents, a source confirms to THR.

As The Weinstein Co. enters the final stretch of its prerelease marketing efforts for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master, the Church of Scientology -- the origins of which are explored in the film -- has been mounting a campaign of its own.

Sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that the church has been calling, e-mailing and sending letters to Harvey Weinstein's studio to voice objections to the film's depiction of a cult leader, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman and said to be a loose fictionalization of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Joaquin Phoenix also stars in the film as a drifter who falls under the Hoffman character's spell.

THR also has learned that The Weinstein Co. has paid for heightened security at Monday night's New York premiere at the Ziegfeld Theater.

Anderson had downplayed the Scientology connection in interviews, though he did acknowledge at the Venice Film Festival -- where the film took several top awards but lost the Golden Lion over a technicality -- that The Master was “inspired by L. Ron Hubbard and the early days of Dianetics.â€

<< It was founded in 1982 by Unification Church founder Sun Myung Moon >> :surprised:

Of course, it is no more loony that some of the leftwing journal;s out there.

I guess you are right, that's why I refrain from posting articles from Huffingtonpost, e.g.

If you either just follow liberal or conservative media, soon you start to see US politics through heavily tinted glasses. It like living in political bubble while losing contact to the reality of the people in the street.

When the bubble bursts either party is equally surprised that the reality looks quite different.

You could see it after Paul Ryan entered the field. The left was sure that healthcare e.g. would destroy him in the eyes of the electorate. It didn't happen (but then he did it partly to himself with his convention speech). Now the rightwing media is shocked that Obama is actually leading regardless of the economic situation.
