unit731
Me thinks the children of Ms Noland have a tad bit of humor.
Coss
>> Chinese fighter jets intercept US spy plane 'unsafely' over South China Sea | World news | The Guardian >> Much to Beijing’s chagrin, the US military has conducted several “freedom of navigation†operations, in which planes or ships pass within a 12-nautical-mile buffer around the Chinese installations. Not wanting to defend the Chinese, but you do have to wonder what the USA's response would be if the Chinese conducted “freedom of navigation†operations, in which planes or ships pass within a 12-nautical-mile buffer around the American installations or territories. http://www.theguardi...pt-us-spy-plane
Flashermac
Brilliant argument ... if you accept that China owns every reef and island in the entire South China Sea, even if it contradicts the accepted standards of territorial waters. That's the whole point of the flights, to "remind" China that they claiming international waters. Japan annexed "Manchukuo" and Korea, but no one else seemed to accept that either. The green line shows China's claimed terrtorial waters. According to them, they own the entire South Chinese Sea and no one else can sail through it without their permission. Uh-huh. Flashermac
The encounter came near the Scarborough Shoals, which China has built up into an island fortress. But it's not the PRC's most extreme claim. Look at the islands just off Malaysia! The UN recognises a 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone. However, China's claims exceed that by 2 and 3 times, claiming islands that unquestionably are in the recognised economic zones of other countries. China is acting like Japan in the 1930s. However from outside, the observer sees two 'defence' forces poking each other with pointy sticks.
Flashermac
The Russians have also "buzzed" US Navy ships. Basically, both Russia and China are showing they are confident that Obama won't do a thing about it. And they're right. (Obie has stopped the US Navy from taking the stronger response they wanted to make.) According to the UN, the Chinese base is clearly in the Philippine's exclusive economic zone. Wonder when China will claim Singapore and San Francisco. (I have seen a PRC map which actually claims the Brits and French "took" Thailand from China in 1904.) Mekong
The South China Sea does not exist, I have been told so, it is Biển Äông or "East Sea" They reject documents over here if "South China Sea" is even intimated.
