'Worst call by far': Conversation between Malcolm Turnbull and Donald Trump revealed - Link

It should have been one of the most congenial calls for the new commander in chief - a conversation with the leader of Australia, one of America's staunchest allies, at the end of a triumphant week.

Instead, President Donald Trump blasted Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over a refugee agreement and boasted about the magnitude of his electoral college win, according to senior U.S. officials briefed on the Saturday exchange. Then, 25 minutes into what was expected to be an hour-long call, Trump abruptly ended it.

At one point Trump informed Turnbull that he had spoken with four other world leaders that day - including Russian President Vladimir Putin - and that, "This was the worst call by far."

Trump's behaviour suggests that he is capable of subjecting world leaders, including close allies, to a version of the vitriol he frequently employs against political adversaries and news organisations in speeches and on Twitter.

"This is the worst deal ever," Trump fumed as Turnbull attempted to confirm that the United States would honor its pledge to take in 1,250 refugees from an Australian detention center.

Trump, who one day earlier had signed an executive order temporarily barring the admissions of refugees, complained that he was "going to get killed" politically and accused Australia of seeking to export the "next Boston bombers."

U.S. officials said that Trump has behaved similarly in conversations with leaders of other countries, including Mexico. But his treatment of Turnbull was particularly striking because of the tight bond between the United States and Australia - countries that share intelligence, support one another diplomatically and have fought together in wars including in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The characterisations provide insight into Trump's temperament and approach to the diplomatic requirements of his job as the nation's chief executive, a role in which he continues to employ both the uncompromising negotiating tactics he honed as a real estate developer and the bombastic style he exhibited as a reality television personality. and on and on...

Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!

Sorry Donald.....1250 isn't thousands. And refugees aren't illegal.

It doesn't matter what Trump does. It doesnt as long as his core supporters as well as overall enough people still support him. The GOP don't want to piss him off because by doing so they will get the full force of his tweets, etc, at re-election.

For those that want Trump out, Pence is much, much worse. Trump, can and will change his mind, he is no ideologue. He will change if the wind changes enough. Pence is old school, Christian right who will put his religious views above the constitution. Well, he would view his religious views the SAME as The Constitution. The guy is scary. He is religious right batshit crazy. He would have been out of his job as Indiana Governor if it weren't for Trump. He made an anti LBGT law that was making companies flee the state.

Anyway, long term, the GOP still have serious issues with regards to demographics. That won't change. 17 states (including Pennsylvania a swing state) has more whites dying than being born. http://time.com/4585232/white-deaths-exceed-births-united-states/ . The opiate/heroin epidemic is reeking havoc on birthrates. Its sped up the demographic numbers. Its largely a white epidemic. Blacks and latinos have slowed drug use (crack, meth, etc.) North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia were solid red states 30 years ago and now they are slightly red and deemed 'swing states' .Virginia and NC have a lot of progressives moving there hence the change politically. Georgia has a huge influx of both latinos and blacks that have been moving there from the north for the last 25 years as well as progressive whites. Latinos will change a few states. Millennials are far more progressive, hence Bernie Sanders. They grew up in multi cultural/ethnic schools, and for the most part are left of center. The Fox News voting block, over 50 and white are dying off at a fast rate. Latinos were 8% of the population 50 years ago and are now about 20% and will be 25% soon. Its a broad term. Cubans consider themselves white, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans don't. Mexicans usually don't but the government is giving latinos an option to self identify as white and some political scientists believe its to increase the GOP numbers as they are socially conservative naturally and will self identify with white working class views. Time will tell.

Just like the Brexit numbers in England, urban dwellers are progressives and don't mind this shift demographically while rural and all white areas are worried by it.

Trump has also woken up the Democratic party which, at least in terms of leadership, is weak and spineless. The masses are active but the leadership is weak. The question, who emerges to run in 2020? Elizabeth Warren is a given in terms of probable candidates. A few others on the horizon are Cory Booker, Kamala Harris a rising star. Sanders is still a force but is deemed too old. Biden is but is also too old.

Trump though, is covering his bases. I think there are two forces working who don't like each other. Bannon and the alt right crowd he brings and his son in law Kuchner. I have to assume Kuchner is wary of Bannon and the alt right, coded or sometimes not so coded anti Jewish views. Bannon has to be wary that Kuchner views him that way. Both are getting what they want in terms of policy and appointments. The government is severely right of center, militaristic and religious. Israel has gotten the most far right Israeli ambassador ever and so far a President who has been the most pro Israeli president since Truman if not Nixon. The ambassador is Trumans bankruptcy lawyer and believe it or not he is to the right of even Netanayu politically. The US embassy will move to Jerusalem. Doing so is telling the Palestinians and the arab world, America is no longer, publicly at least, a mediator. We are no longer for a 2 nation solution. Publicly we may be but in actuality that is dead in the Trump administration. The repurcussions remain to be seen but its a huge show of intent. The Palestinians are done with in terms of having their own state. In fact, I can see them eventually removed from west bank and gaza strip in time. The Israelis know that no one will oppose them. Not America, China doesn't want to get involved, Russia doesn't care. The EU is overly sensitive to being labeled anti semetic, and the EU is basically Germany and they will not utter anything, for obvious reasons. Trump's administration omission of Jews from the Holocaust observance was a bone thrown to Bannon's crowd. His appointments say the complete opposite.

I'm not taking a side, just writing what I think the winds are blowing. Chocolat Steve is just going take care of Chocolat Steve and try and be independent (be wary of those who speak about themselves in the 3rd person!
