StoneSoup
I'll offer up another clip that just happens to feature Tom Hanks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfh3ne88fPY I was a US Army Infantry officer for ten years - and I originally saw this film in a theater outside Ft. Benning, Georgia. The theater was packed - and yet, for the first ten minutes of that film, you could have heard a pin drop - most patrons were barely even breathing. unit731
poc9-L_9DxE "Dear Madam: I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Yours very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln."

unit731
Although not a movie. The song is a life story. And a story of some of the punters right here on this board. "The dog up and died." "After 20 years he grieved." qhJOK-ESP7A

Steve
Its tough to beat the ending of . I came across the movie by chance flipping channels on a slow Saturday afternoon and every time I was about to change the channel I couldn't. Stayed riveted to it and had to wipe a tear when at the ending.
