Horneytorney
know that in China it's a holiday today, but did not notice in the past that this is celebrated in Thailand as well. Today I saw a chinese cemetery packed with cars and people... anyone participated in the festivities?
Central Scrutinizer
The Chinese Thais celebrate it. And so does my Lao Thai family. After Songkran they'll be cleaning auntie's bones and interring them in a wall crypt at the village Wat I was told. Seems to be not only the Chinese that do this. Boo Radley
The recent horrific Porsche-Lao girl crash that was in the news...I seem to remember the father and son initially failed to turn up at the police station citing attending the festival as the reason. Flashermac
Chinese-Thais most definitely celebrate it. But somehow I think I'd be arrested and thrown in the slammer if I tried to dig up my great grandparents and play with their bones in the States. p.s. My Mrs just called from the Lao border. She is on her way to China for 3 weeks study and is going OVERLAND! Jeez, the ideas women get. I told her not to get smashed up. Bus all the way to Kunming. She said it would be exciting. Well, so was getting shot at, rocketed, mortared and shelled - but I wouldn't recommend it if you can avoid it.
