khunsanuk
Hi, I hear 'Oh prachou' so often when the kids watch something from the US dubbed into Thai. I know it is the translation for 'Oh my God', but I don't think I have *ever* heard anyone say this in real life. There has to be a more accurate way to translate this than just literal, right? 'Dtaai laew' springs to mind, although that might not work for all uses of 'Oh my God'. Sanuk!
Boo Radley
If it's used in the context of some misfortune or calamity, maybe WEN-GAM เวรà¸à¸£à¸£à¸¡ gets close....? It's used quite a lot in internet chat rooms, where it's sometimes abbreviated to just à¸à¸³.
Flashermac
"Pra-jao chuay" is closest to "Oh my God". I've never hear anyone say "oh prachou".
khunsanuk
Hi, "I've never hear anyone say "oh prachou"." Exactly! Which is why it sounds to utterly lame on TV in dubbed stuff. Yes, 'Wen gam' would be a decent translation in many cases as well I guess. Sanuk!
Pescator
My wife doesn`t use Pra Jao พระเจ้า, but instead Put toh พุดโท่ which covers the same meaning. I believe this is a somewhat ancient expression, but well, so is she..... I find this list of exclamation particles rather comprehensive: Link
